Battlefield 4 Beta, October 2013

The new bomb mode

I’m looking forward to the beta, I was surprised to see a slot for it already in my Origin games list. I didn’t put a ton of time into BF3 (50ish hours, rank 30ish), but I’m loving the sounds of the changes they’re doing with BF4.

After playing more team-based games (Natural Selection 2, Red Orchestra 2, Planetside, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, etc.), I’m not sure I can go back to the totally silent, individualist chaos of Battlefield.

Well BF4 is supposed to have full on Voip this time, so lets hope it actually makes it in. That was one of the major complaints of the Tactical Gamer folks I usually play with. Add back in commander mode and it looks like it can really go back to more tactical style play if people want it to.

Jeez cut it down on the blur, bloom and other light effects it looks like I’m looking into a kaleidoscope at times.

WW2 Online. Remember spending nearly 30 minutes to get to the assault staging point, another 15 minutes, and then dead after having 2 minutes of combat.
Good times =)

Only game I played where we used to do recon flights over objectives, then post black and white pictures on squad forum with information =)

Realism lol!

BETA DATES

http://blogs.battlefield.com/2013/09/battlefield-4-beta-dates/

OCT1 or OCT4 depending on stuff listed in the blog post.

Hey sweet, just a little over a week!

Allright, so if you’re a BF3 Premium Subscriber, you’re supposed to have access to the beta, right? Have they made any updates about that?

I want to pre-order, but I’m trying to figure out what’s the best value. The reason to buy the Digital Deluxe is for the beta access, but if I get that already for BF3 Premium, then I’m paying $10 more for the China Rising Expansion, the 3 gold battlepacks (whatever those are), and the vehicle shortcut bundle. But if I eventually buy the BF4 Premium Subscription, I’ll get China Rising anyway. (It’s really stupid of EA to offer Premium already, btw). So it’s basically $10 for the battlepacks and vehicle shortcut. Is that right?

I’m also thinking of selling my 6970 and using it to upgrade to something more powerful, but the problem there is that the 7970 is already a year old, and since AMD got the marketing rights, they’re going to release a bunch of new cards very soon.

Well the new AMD cards are announced now and the highest end one supposedly includes bf4. Maybe that is an option?

Wow, had no idea they did that tonight. Holy crap, AMD hauled out Thresh??? Hahahaha.

That Mantle API sounds sexy, especially once they patch it into BF4. But that’s probably a discussion for another thread.

I wonder if anyone is like me, but I keep spotting graphical glitches in OFFICIAL VIDEOS. I mean, shouldn’t they polish this stuff?

For example something like black smoke in the background not properly fog-shaded (meaning it appears as a black box even far far away), or extreme texture flickering/z-fighting pretty much EVERYWHERE.

Yay, new gen.

Working with AMD on a solution called Mantle. Close collaboration. Cross-platform, but Windows first. BF4 is the pilot program. Have a native rendering back-end using Mantle with a compatible Radeon GPU. Will give superb GPU performance, better scaling, use all 8 CPU cores, render more in parallel. Really highly optimized GPU usage.

This is a foundation for the future for us. Really only the beginning.

Interesting, so it is a bypass DirectX, “direct to the metal” API sort of thing. Driven by the fact that PS4 and Xbone both have AMD inside, right, so internally they run Mantle too…

I wonder if Mantle could help squash the DirectX hacking in Battlefield. Those hacks basically intercept the DirectX calls. If Mantle bypasses DirectX?

Yeah, but DX will always be supported, because it has to be. So :(

I wonder if its finally time to upgrade to W7 64-bit so I can play this. Hmmm.

EDIT: I actually have a copy of W8, but so many seem to hate it I don’t know if I should install it.

Windows 8 is great, go for it.

Windows 8 sucks - stay away from it.

Windows 8 is okay. Buy StartIsBack and remove anything you don’t like from the interface.

Oh, and windows-X is a key combination you’ll want to remember. Seriously.
