Don’t try it in a helicopter. Seat switching doesn’t work anymore.

I just picked up the game when it was on the steam daily deals. Finished the campaign and have been getting my feet wet in MP. I’m currently level 5 and I’m confident I can play without making a fool of myself.

I joined the group and am more than willing to play some games with some Qt3 folks. My steam name is the same as on this forum.

Joined as SaberSnail. I’m stumbling along. Pretty sure I can’t play without making a fool of myself.

I’m Moggraider in-game. Hoping to get some more Qt3ers in games. Just got this, so I’ll be playing a lot. I spent many, many hours playing this on PS3 already, too.

On one hand the level grind keeps me focused, on the other hand I find myself playing classes just to unlock stuff regardless of whether or not they’re appropriate.

ARE YOU ONE OF THOSE GUYS WHO PLAYS RECON WITH A SNIPER RIFLE WHEN ATTACKING?

Just kidding. I’ve played a lot of BFBC2 and haven’t even unlocked all the medic stuff because I always go back to playing assault.

Meh, playing Assault is only for the smoke nades in the hard rush areas. For the rest: shotgun recon for attack, medic for defense, engineer for vehicle heavy maps.

I refuse to play the Vietnam expansion until DICE seriously starts balancing things.

Anyone playing NAM ? Its quite fun.

In what sense?

Almost everything.

Maps are unbalanced. They providing the losing team with very little ways to recover. The entire match is often decided in the first few minutes. Vantage point just screams imba with a hill that overlooks everything. Hill 137 is suicide on Rush with every objective being in the open.

The tanks can aim so high they can actually shoot down helicopters. The Heuy feels like its made out of paper. 3 magazines of PPSH and its flaming.

and then there’s the usual overpowered(M16,PPSH) and underpowered(flamethrower) weapons.

I must say, this game is pleasantly fun. I play it every day when COD:Blops has random disconnects and lags, so I’ve been playing it every day…
I’m shit at it, and have no idea how to play, but holy cow, it feels like I’m in a movie or something.
This sounds like astroturfing but it isn’t. I really am most pleasantly surprised by it.

Yeah, me too Cliffski. I got mad at the Battlefield series and stormed out sometime around BF2 but the Steam sale and some friends convinced me to get it. I’m digging it.

I’ve found the easy company servers to be good ones for my skill level. Also good ping for me. I’ve had a lot of fun the past 2 weeks.

I’ve been having a different experience. Especially when it comes to the Huey, I feel it’s much easier to fly it than the vanilla choppers, it turns much faster and you can do some incredible aerobatics with it. It’s true that they’re more fragile, but their guns are strangely much more effective than the Blackhawk miniguns, and on the rush maps the NVA only have small arms to destroy them. I tend to die much faster in the Apache/Havok because as soon as you find yourself in a dangerous zone you’ll very probably have tracers on you.

In general, I also think defending is much harder and requires a better team. I noticed that a lot of people tend to form a line in front of and often far away from the rush objectives, and the enemy troops easily slip through.

However, I haven’t been able to determine if the maps are really balanced or not. They feel balanced to me, but what usually makes the difference is how much players on your team play as a team. Even a bit of coordination makes a huge difference, no matter on which side, and is usually decisive.

Question: After trying out COD:BO, I’m looking for something that isn’t quite so frantic and run and gun. Used to love the OLD BF games, so thinking about jumping into this one. Don’t expect perfection, and I’m just looking at MP online play. XBox 360 will be the platform.

One question: am I required to play as part of a squadron? That sounds fun if I get some friends together, but I like the option of just playing by myself at times. One reason: that way if I screw up (and I suck at online MP on the console) I only hurt myself and don’t have to worry about being the guy holding down the squad. Second reason, sometimes I may not want to do what the squad wants to do, etc.

Thanks

No, you can play on your own if you want. There are game types where there are no squads, and even in the squad games, you can quite often be a one man squad if there’s space on the server and you fancy a challenge :) The most fun MP games are team based though, so you’ll at least want to play on those as part of a larger group. I found this pretty painless after a while, despite my own preference for solo play. You could try deathmatch to get the hang of things, then see if you feel like squad dm, then conquest or rush, which are increasingly team-focussed. That’s what I did. The more team-based stuff was utterly incomprehensible at first, but it came after a while. And I leave helicopters to other people :)

I think you just missed the ridiculous Steam sale though.

Edit: Sorry - didn’t see 360 comment.
