The medic guns are pretty good overall, the m60 is just way better than the rest. I can do comparably to my assault class when rocking the xm8 lmg or the saw, so it’s definitely not that the m60 is the only decent medic gun. It’s that the M60 is so far above and obviously better than the other medic guns that they use them, not because they don’t have a choice.
Who’s up for some PC play right now? Climb in the Mumble server and lets go shoot shit!

As of today I’ve used the M60 enough to have a platinum star (10 gold = 1 plat), but I enjoy the XM8 LMG more, and I prefer it or the MG36 at medium to long range because they’re more accurate, and easier to control. However, if I’m playing as a medic I’m almost always in middle of the most chaotic, close range fighting, and in a situation like that the M60 is the best choice. At close range the superior accuracy (and sight configuration) of some of the other LMGs is irrelevant, and the M60’s higher damage really becomes a factor. The M60 is the only weapon I’ve ever used to successfully hose down an entire enemy squad.
I have more fun playing the Assault class, but I usually switch to Medic when things get hectic, because I don’t want to have to reload after every kill. Having now played BC1, which has assault rifles that hold 50 rounds, I can’t believe they reduced AR ammo capacity to 30. I want larger AR magazines even more than I want improved damage on the non-M60 LMGs.
EDIT: I also want enemy helicopters to explode on takeoff. If someone could make that happen, I’d really appreciate it.
My serverlist never shows ping. Why is that?

Try running Steam and BC2 as admin.
I read this on the UK forums and it struck me as rather apt:
Our Father who art in heaven,
Johnson be thy name.
Thy Battlefield come.
Thy will be done
on Rush as it is in Conquest.
Give us this day our daily frag,
and forgive us our noobtubes
as we forgive those who noobtube against us,
and lead us not into Recon,
but deliver us from M60.
For thine is the Battlefield,
and the M-COM, and the flag,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
Last night, I was determined to keep playing the medic until I got defibs. It was tough for the first hour or two. Every map we played had lots of vehicles that I couldn’t do anything to. It was really frustrating and I felt completely worthless. I couldn’t get many kills either because I just hate the starting Medic gun.
But eventually I unlocked the M249, or whatever it’s called, which is a much better LMG than the starting one. Then I started getting some kills. But I still wasn’t working my way towards defibs all that fast. Then one of my friends suggested laying down health kits near the conquest flags. Once I did that, spread health kits all over the place, I really started raking in the medic experience then. And I finally unlocked the defibs! Hurrah!
And oh my god, being a medic is so much fun now! I still can’t believe they hide the main medic ability behind hours of grinding. Though I suppose if I’d done that medkit trick earlier, I could have gotten there a lot faster.
Also, we always tended to get the same 3 maps over and over in the game. But last night we played on 3 new maps that I’d never seen before. That was awesome too.
My favorite moments came after I unlocked the defibs. I’d follow my teammates around, and if they died, kill their killer, and then defib them. It was so cool. Now I can enjoy both Medic and Engineer classes a lot.
I hope the Assault and Recon classes are as useful and fun as these two classes turned out.

Assault class is incredibly useful, albeit not as much for a medic since they’re typically fairly set as far as ammo goes.
Recons have the potential to be a useful class if working well with a squad and proximity detectors, but I wish 99% of snipers would just die in a ghillie suit fire.

It’s one of your main functions. So, yes, neglecting one of your main roles gets you less xp, at least until you become awesome enough to rake in the xp via kills alone.

Yeah. I thought it’d be hours too, but it’s 10 points per tick per person, and 20 if they happen to be in your squad. I didn’t even notice when I got the defibs because it was so much fun just trying to get into the right place where my kits were needed (and not get shot myself).
So yeah, that progression is kinda there for a reason :P
Yeah, I made the mistake of judging the usefulness of my own needs. Since I spotted people and killed them, or was killed by them, I never really thought there was any need for health kits in a game like this. Heck, even when I got hurt, I’d just back off a little and go around some other route, and I’d heal quickly along the way without any medkits. I’ve never seen people actually need medkits, not with the damage they have in this game where there’s not much distance between uninjured and dead. But whatever, that doesn’t mean I can’t force the medkits on people by putting them in strategic places, where they can’t help but use them accidentally. Which is the part that I’d not realized.
Medkits are amazing in the game, both for team survival and for points. They can turn the tide for both.
Erm just so you know, you can only have one health kit out at once.
Hmmm. Interesting. That explains why they weren’t getting used more.

Fair enough. I did the same thing with ammo boxes; I didn’t think anyone lived long enough to need them. However, for those people who DO survive longer they’re invaluable; and there are weapons that come with little ammo so those are life-savers for them as well.
Yeah, I would LOOOOVE ammo boxes. I’m always running out of ammo. Not only with my engineer, who has limited ammo, but also with my medic. The medic starts with 400 rounds for the M249, but that’s not enough when I can’t blow up vehicles. So every time a helicopter would fly overhead, for example, I can’t resist putting about 200 rounds into it. The worst is when I run out, and then I only have 21 bullets left for my 1911 handgun. And I’m sneaking around, trying to use the 21 bullets wisely, but then I see a tank, and I curse the gods that I’m not an engineer and try to resist shooting at it.
Most guns don’t really damage helos, apart from those that fire “sniper” bullets, eg sniper rifles, shotguns with slugs, and heavy MGs. There’s no point shooting a helo with anything less, unless you’re going for a passenger kill.
