I assume this is out on the 360 as well? How sad, I just unlocked the M60 last night.

I don’t think it’s out on the consoles yet, no. The patch notes that it will be coming to the consoles, but they are working with MS/Sony.

Sweet. Then maybe I have enough time to unlock the M60 this Friday and find out what everyone is talking about. What are they doing to it in the patch anyway? Removing it? Moving it to some other class?

They’re normalizing the damage compared to the other LMGs (about ~20% reduction it looks like). Effectively I think it’ll take an extra bullet to kill people.

The full patch notes with all the nitty gritty were linked about a page back, if you want all the nitty-gritty details on the weapon changes.

You mean this post about the patch? I looked at that, but there was no mention of the M60.

Chronicle of performance issues:

I run the game with this last patch and I notice some very annoying and frequent stuttering. So I start to experiment.

The first thing is to play on a empty server. The stuttering is still there. I also read there are brand new ATI drivers (10.4a) to fix the slow loading. So I get them. The page suggests to unistall first current drivers, so I do it. Reboot.

Just for an experiment I try to run the game with whatever vanilla drivers has Windows 7 by default: stuttering completely gone. Both in a empty server and one filled with players. Framerate is lower than usual but without the stuttering it’s very playable. FRAPS also shows FPS much more stable.

I also completely erase all setting and start with brand new account. I reinstall 10.4, 10.3 and 10.2 drivers. In all cases the stuttering is present and goes away only with default W7 drivers. With 10.2 the stuttering is SEVERE, to the point of being really unplayable. Noticeable stuttering even by just panning the view.

So I try something different. I change in the settings.ini from:
RenderAheadLimit=2 (default)
to
RenderAheadLimit=0

Stuttering gone, including latest 10.4a.

Hmm, just launched the game and had to patch it. Not that it matters to me, I doubt I will be able to tell the difference.

Maybe on the grenade launcher. I finally realized why people say it is so good yesterday. It really clicked.

I misled you, it was the same page, not the last page - sorry! :)

Here they are:

Thought I’d highlight some areas for you since I know you enjoy Medic:

Increased the zoomed burst accuracy of LMGs and decreased LMG accuracy when moving to reduce LMG run and gun.
Decreased the base damage of the M60 and XM8 LMGs to bring them in line with the other LMG damage values.
Decreased the damage of the PKM over long range to balance it with other LMGs.
Increased the base damage of the Type88 LMG to balance it with other LMGs.

Increased the benefit from the Medkit Heal+ specialization to make it more desirable as a Specialization.

Ah, gotcha. I play on the PC version, I was just going off of this comment at the bottom of the patch notes:

These changes will eventually make their way to the 360 and PS3 as we work with our partners Microsoft and Sony to continue to support BFBC2 on all platforms.

the patch today was for the new skins from the Dr Pepper promotion

the patch with these changes has just been submitted to microsoft for validation and could take anywhere from a week to 3 months to come out depending on how much microsoft likes Dice

Well, I didn’t see a HELL of a lot of balance difference playing as assault with GL perk post-patch. Still getting tons of GL kills, and got killed quite often by the Carl Gustav as well. So I guess it’s a fairly minor tweak on the explosives side.

I definitely saw less medic M60 wankerage in the 2 games I just played; maybe the patch went heavy on the M60 nerf and light everywhere else?

I need to play as medic to confirm, but the reduction in accuracy while on the move for the machine gun was probably as significant as the damage reduction IMO.

For me the nerf on medic was not perceivable, while the nerf on grenade launcher was.

With the inconsistent hit detection now the launcher feels too unreliable for me. You make things explode right on people and they walk around unaffected. This is very bad also because it looks utterly stupid that people walk unaffected between explosions. I found myself switching to normal shooting since I couldn’t hit anything with the launcher.

Also the knife is now so unreliable that it almost always better to just shoot (if you aren’t sneaking from the back).

If you’re finding shooting instead of noobtubing, especially on moving targets, is preferable I would say that is mission accomplished.

The knife is still lethal. It just doesn’t warp you from 5 feet away to your target just by hitting your Knife key now. You actually have to aim it a bit, but I’m still getting piles of dog tags.

Also I like the shotty changes, the pump actions feel much better. They do still suffer from lag, though, in that if one shot “misses” according to the server, you’re fucked.

The knife was serious bullshit before.

It must be a PC thing because it never warped you forward MW2 style on the 360 version.

Thanks HRose for the research, the stuttering was very annoying in the games i played yesterday, i will try this when i get home.

So are shotguns with 12-gauge perk the new overpowered thing?

Doubtful, the only change i see is this:
Decreased the range of Bolt Action Sniper and Pump Shotgun Slug rounds when using Magnum Ammo for better Kit Balance.

Which is weird cause everyone is spamming an USAS-12 + 12gauge + Magnum and I don’t blame them, you can shoot someone from across an SquadDM map with it.

You could do that before, I got sniped plenty of times by the single shot shotguns with slugs from across the map and now they capped the damage at ~40meter?
I played a few games with the non-auto shotguns to get bronze stars, they seem to need 2 shots to kill people now unless you’re closer than a tank length away and hit the head.

I really wish the shotguns had proper iron sights in target zoom mode though.
Having a server setting for no crosshairs makes no sense when plenty of guns and stationary/vehicle weapons do not have sights at all.
