Battlerite - you gotta fight... for your rite... to battttttle!

Oh. Huh, maybe I’m wrong. I’ll quiz my brother some more.

It’s not a controller game. However, I would strongly avoid this game- as it has worse toxic community issues than Overwatch.

From the screenshots I saw you can disable and mute chat. Viola, it’s like Splatoon!

Fired it up last night to check controller support and there is none. It’s coming to Xbox though so I’m sure it’ll be implemented in the future.

There’s also no voice chat I can see and a toggle button to disable text chat globally.

Off to a very strong start!

RPS weighed in too:

I’ve been playing it a fair bit since it was slated to leave Early Access and I’m really enjoying it. I don’t play MOBAs because they just seem too sprawling and a huge timesink to me, but I really admire Battlerite’s focus on the arena battling.

Rounds are fast and intense and the battlerites themselves allow you to tune your character to your playstyle. 3v3 is quite chaotic but 2v2 can be a real battle of wits and reflexes. The learning curve is in familiarising yourself with the different characters and their movesets, which is tough, but I’ve been able to hold my own more and more recently as Ashka and Iva. Learning has been satisfying. The synergies between different characters and battlerites is really exciting too. There are a lot of potential combos here so playing with a friend or two could be very rewarding.

I’ve been playing this a lot lately. This is my “Rocket League” of 2017 – easy to learn, quick matches, fun core gameplay. Definitely one of my top games of the year. Just remember to turn off the chat (it doesn’t affect the game at all).

Oh excellent! Yeah, that’s the feeling I’m getting too. Quick games, laser focused, polished, deep, fluid and surprisingly intense too when you get down to the last players.

Played some battlegrounds last night with my brother and had a riot.

You’ve got two teams competing to take out randomised objectives that appear at intervals across the map. The better you do at these the faster your enemy’s guardian’s shield will go down, opening up a window of time to damage it. The randomised objectives comprise of minions to destroy, balloons to escort/stop, brutes to take out, capture points and king of the hill-style zones to hold. As Ashka I loved knocking enemies back off capture points.

There’s a really nice ebb and flow to battlegrounds that’s more protracted than the standard short sharp brawls but it’s still a really snappy mod that mixes things up nicely.

This looks cool too:

I just tried out the Battlegrounds mode. Its pretty fun! However, its unfortunate that it lacks the balanced matchmaking of the 2v2 and 3v3 ranked modes. It is also creeping a little closer to a regular MOBA, and coordinated team play is much more important. It also seems like there is much more breathing room, which I feel benefits ranged and support heroes. Definitely interested to see where they go with this, and if the community adapts it as a main mode of play.

BTW, what heroes does everyone play? I’ve been playing a lot of Poloma lately, and I really love her flexibility. She has decent DPS, and can also function as a pretty good healer. Her escapes are less straightforward than other heroes, which can leave her more vulnerable, but they are pretty useful once you get used to them.

Yeah, it is closer to a regular MOBA but it’s a welcome change of pace (and space) from the frantic (and enclosed) 2v2 and 3v3. I appreciate the way the varying objectives play to the strengths and synergies of different champions. The tall grass to hide in and particularly line of sight comes into its own here for getting a surprise jump on the guardian or some unsuspecting enemy wandering past. I once did 1000 guardian damage compared to my teammates’ combined 200-300 using this strategy!

I’ve only had the guts to play as Iva and Ashka so I’m primarily a ranged guy. I’ve tried Pestilus because in the right hands he seems almost unstoppable but he’s a really tough character to wrap your head around. I’d love to see Iva and Ashka on the same team actually with the oil and ignite synergy. I’ll run it by my brother!

I’m ‘geggiis’ on Steam btw @cpugeek13 if you want to add me. Not sure we’ll ever cross paths with timezones and all but may as well friend up.

I was an early fan of Battlterite, and I’m not sure what to make of this. If they’re planning to charge anything like full price for the new game mode I can’t say I’m a fan. It seems likely to alienate much of their existing player base (e.g. the people who would normally be the early adopters of the new game mode) while also sucking more of the life out of their existing game. It would be as if Fortnite wanted to charge customers an extra $50 after they pivoted to a Battle Royale mode.

Battlerite is such an excellent little game that I don’t quite understand what they have to gain by chasing the “Battle Royale” bandwagon. Do they really think this will work out for them, after the failure of trying to introduce game modes other than the default Arena?

This was such a terrible move, wow. Every battlerite player hates this because they literally dropped all support p much for battlerite to focus on this new mode, which was already on shakey ground when it was announced. But then to go and release it as a new, paid game? its a smack in the face to the existing playerbase for a mode that frankly is weird.

SLS is a weird company. first they tank BLC, then they actually make a decent copy of it but disappear entirely to make a fucking BR mode for their game. honestly wouldn’t surprise me to see the company fold after this because they have totally pissed off their already small playerbase.

I’m actually pretty upset since I bought the all champ pack when it was on sale specifically to be ready in case anything in it carried over to the BR mode. Now it’s wasted money for me.

edit: read the article, they covered this. my purchase will still apply to the new game/mode

New trailer’s up and I think it looks great:

I worry/wonder about how this will affect the base game, which is already fantastic. I do feel that while the BR trend is tiring, this is one of the more distinctive efforts and perhaps the boost the game/IP needs. I can’t see much growth beyond its current dedicated base as a 2v2/3v3 arena brawler, and a free one at that. I think I bought the champ’s pack but will definitely be checking this out with my brother.

meh, there really wasnt much gameplay, just some generic battlerite combat footage. im still waiting to see more actual details

Anyone try this out yet? I got it, but have only played through the tutorial. Went to the Steam forums to see if there any first impression threads, and found bunch of threads whining that the game isn’t free.

Sad trombone.

With the state of the current playerbase we’re no longer in a position where working on Battlerite and Battlerite Royale are sustainable as main projects for the studio. We’ve seen declining player numbers and player investment for a while now, and diminishing returns on all of our latest gameplay changes and marketing campaigns. While players are willing to try out Battlerite and Battlerite Royale for a while, retaining them has always been our biggest challenge.

Battle Season 3 and the associated Battle Pass will be the last that we have planned for the foreseeable future. We are exploring ideas for development after Battle Season 3, and will announce any potential plans closer to the end of the Season. The servers regardless will stay online.
