I had coworker buddies over at my apartment to watch that particular episode on my projector. We were blown away with Galactica’s fall/jump tactic. Also amazing was the death of the Pegasus.
Yup, from the same episode, IIRC. I was really sad to see the Pegasus go.

In a twist of the knife, the real reason they got rid of the Pegasus when they did was because production needed to strike the Pegasus interior sets to make way for the Cylon Base Ship interior sets.
Yeah, that turned out to be a good tradeoff.
Seriously, Zylon!??! That cheeses me off right there, it does. Twist of the knife indeed. Fuck you, Ron Moore.

Seriously. Ron Moore mentioned it in one of the podcasts.
Yeah, between that and the ending, it’s a wonder I still wanna own this on Blu-ray. Probably because when it was good, it was REALLY good, but that’s what made it so frustrating when it mostly turned to shit in the later seasons.
This show ended so badly I couldn’t bring myself to even watch Caprica. The last season was catastrophically bad, and it coloured/tainted the previous couple as well, since highlighted that all the mumbo jumbo wasn’t actually going anywhere or remotely coherent, let alone congruent.
I actually did manage to bring myself to start watching Caprica, which had its own daffiness, but what turned me off to the show after a couple of episodes was - the characters. I found them all to be in a range from uninteresting to repellent, and couldn’t be bothered to care about them.
I think Moore had two good seasons in him with BSG and that was it. Should have left it at that.

I’m not sure I buy the death of the Pegasus simply b/c they needed the interior for the Cylon base ships. The glorious destruction of the Pegasus is part of BSG lore. I would have been really surprised if they had kept her around for a long time. Of course, by the time the Pegasus died the whole “human race for survival vs. Cylons” storyline was pretty much out the window in favor of the “there’s no coherent plotline” story.

Considering how Deep Space Nine ended (thematically), we all probably should have anticipated the deus ex machina ending.
Agreed. I really enjoyed the show until the last episode. And then, it became clear that I liked a lot of the last couple of mini-seasons because they all seemed to be leading to something cool. But when they instead led to what we saw in the last episode, it was so deflating, I lost all interest. It’s a shame, because apparently Caprica had a bad pilot but is a good show.
Here’s 10 reasons you should be watching Caprica, which makes a compelling case. It has me intrigued. Maybe I’m being unfair to Caprica just because I disliked the last episode of BSG so much. The strongest part of BSG was always the characters, and it sounds like that’s the strength of Caprica as well. Plus it sounds like a good science fiction show since it explores issues in interesting ways. It certainly sounds like the show would be something I’d really enjoy.

At the same time, the whole reason Ron Moore kept Pegasus around past the initial two-parter was simple: “Hey, they always have these Special Guest Star Spaceships that turn the tide of everything then magically disappear! Let’s be different and keep this one around.” So they did.
Given that, yes, I totally believe they scripted in Pegasus’ suicide simply because they needed the room. That being said it still worked dramatically.
Although “The Plan” does show that yes, there can be a worse BSG ‘episode’ than the ending.
Yeah, BSG’s ending sullied me to Caprica. The pilot nearly putting me to sleep didn’t help, so I’ve not watched it since.
I think that the Pegasus bridge was from the Lost in Space pilot which never aired.

What’s hilarious and sad at the same time is that if you remove the mention of Caprica, this is word for word how I feel about both BSG and Lost.

You can’t bring yourself to watch Lost because the last season of BSG was so bad? What?
If you remove the mention of Caprica, as he said, he means that the specific description of what viewing the last season did to Desslock’s view of the whole experience was analogous to his own experience with Lost. I considered moving the phrases around for greater intelligibility, but it looks like you might need the practice.
This has been simple shit explained, with Lizard_King.

Caprica is very different than BSG, if Moore is involved at all, you can’t tell. I wish it didn’t use the BSG game, it would have made a fine show on it’s own.

This is typical lizard gibberish. Desslock’s post boils down to “X was so bad it dissuaded me from watching Y”. Removing one of the variables changes the sentiment to simply “X sucked”, which is not “word for word” the same thought. For bonus crazy, Khoram says Desslock’s post is how he feels about BSG if you remove the reference to Caprica, even though BSG is the show he was talking about.
Instead of quoting irrelevant bits, then instructing readers to ignore them, just quote the relevant bits only, like so:
I feel the same way about Lost! LOL!
Is it really any worse than feigning a lack of comprehension where you actually intend to offer a stylistic critique? I don’t know many schools of thought that favor passive-aggression, but feel free to cite them in support of your position.
