The Pre-Fall Caprica theme also seemed to borrow a motif from Outland, which is amusing in a few ways.
I agree, 33 is one of the best episodes still, and the Pegasus ones are really good too (though didn’t like Cain/Kane dying off so quickly… but perhaps for the best). You also have to remember how we came into the series… a lot of people did not like the mini-series at all and many wondered if the initial season would plummet or just be mediocre, like the mini. Almost no one expected it to be tons better, and 33 was a huge, huge leap.
Then again, looking back, it’s not a show that highly depends on having great, individual episodes, though occasionally it falls into that formula with spectacular and horrific results. Instead it depends on arcs, as feint as they are, or continual builds. The end of the show is clearly being done that way, with no episodes as real standouts but a build towards a momentous occasion. A very slow build, which people understandably may not approve of, because they are mostly boring and I think frankly they could have done much better than this so far with bits of it (the whole Galactica falling apart thing being a part of it).

This reference doesn’t get used enough.

With the council of captains, how does Lee Adama have any authority at all? Acting vice-president holdover?

It’s not like she’s done anything in a while anyway. It’s been clear that Lee’s been running the show for quite some time now.
Except she can rally all that remains of humanity to a cause.
She’s what Gaius wants to be, and she doesn’t want to be it.

If the last episode is spectacular, all will be forgiven.
The Deathride of the Battlestar Galactica. That’s got some possibilities. Adama rams the Galactica into the Cylon Colony Ship and leads a boarding action. In a scene out of Boorman’s Excalibur Cavil rams a lance through Tigh and he pulls himself down it and gouges out Cavil’s eyes and dispatches him. The Galactica explodes and in a Viking’s Funeral most everybody is killed. The End.
I have no idea how to wrap all the loose ends like Baltar and the rag tag fleet but forget em.
There had better be a big ramming scene, because they cleared the damn ship out for it.
Anyone watching the Big Frakking Show?
SPOILER
Ron Moore just explained that Six is not a chip in Baltar’s head. That she’s a messenger of a higher power.
That’s on now? Crud. Thought it was Friday. As for the messenger bit, been saying it for a long time. Same with Head Baltar, etc. The Ship of Light is out there somewhere, in some form. That’s also why I’ve always said “Head” Six instead of “Chip” Six.

He’s talking about the special ABOUT the last episode, not the last episode. RDM goes into a fair bit of detail about some of the decisions he made. Basically, he reiterated that all of his decisions were character-focused instead of plot-focused, and viewed through that lens a lot of things in the show. Also he gets bored easily.

You forgot about the part where he says he liked to make decisions based upon what would piss off people on the internets.
Right, knew that. I thought the special was a lead-in to the finale. I did not know it was on tonight, and therefore I missed it.

My Tivo says it’s playing sometime tommorow too.

Seriously, what good is a doctor on a suicide run? The flashbacks are setup for who crosses the line and why, and the last actions that they do in the final battle. There is going to be some epic space battle porn in the last episode where there is a kamikaze run in the accretion disk of a black hole dodging asteroids and missiles and bullets and a freakin black hole. SO many ways to die. People are going to have visions after they die, and a few people are going to have moments with excellent framing like the Roslyn fountain and the adama at the end of a hall standing motionless moment while he decides the final fate of Galactica.
It’s gonna be awesome.
One of the threads that seems to have been dropped is Tory spacing the Chief’s wife. Since then it seems like Tory has largely been sidelined. I hope they deal with this in the finale otherwise it just feels like a cheap way to dispatch a character that they didn’t feel like writing for anymore.

They flipped Tory’s personality just like they did so many others. As a newly discovered cylon, she was psychotic and manipulative. Now she’s just a dumb space bimbo who can’t even make up her own mind.
I’ve thought about getting Tivo, oh, about 100 times. Then I realize that I watch about 5 hours of TV a week and I’d be throwing (more) money away on a service I barely use. It’s hard enough to justify paying for cable with my low usage.

Ronald D. Moore’s commentary confirms there is absolutely no relationship between Kara Thrace or her father, and the 7th Cylon Model, Daniel. There it is folks.
So is Daniel now just a red herring, and are they really really going to tie everything together in two hours and have the big space battle where everyone dies? All signs are pointing towards “Not Likely” but I can wait till Friday.
I listened to the RDM podcast this morning, and he seemed genuinely surprised that so many on the Internet have obsessed over the Kara/Father/Daniel relationship (or non-relationship, as the case may be). He was essentially apologizing for leading us down that path. It’s got to be one of those things they missed in the writer’s room, because it’s a glaringly obvious connection to make.
He also regrets that last Adama crying jag – admitting that, as we more or less agreed upon here, it was one crying jag too many.
