While we’re picking nits, who the hell was Hoshi anyway? Was his character even introduced before the finale? I’ve seen every episode, but I don’t recall him having a memorable role before now.
Also, why were there Centurions (both new and old models) fighting on Cavill’s side? I thought the Cylon civil war started when the Sixes convinced the Centurions to rebel against Cavill after he tried to lobotomize them.

a) He was not only Gaeta’s lover, but he’s been floating around since the Pegasus entered the fleet in season 2. He’s definitely a subliminal regular.
b) It was the Raiders, not the Centurions, that were lobotomized.
Gaeta had a lover? When did that happen? I didn’t even know he was gay.
b) It was the Raiders, not the Centurions, that were lobotomized.
Yeah, it started with the Raiders, and then Cavill also wanted to extend the lobotomization to the Centurions; that’s when the Sixes et. al. started the civil war. IIRC, the Centurions joined with Six/Leoban against Cavill/Simon/Boomer/etc.

Not quite. The rebel Cylons started removing the Inhibition MacGuffins from the Centurions.
Don’t ask why the humanoid Cylons decided to manufacture Centurions with free will that needed to be inhibited in the first place. Just… don’t.
To keep the inhibitor manufacturers employed during the Cylon Depression.

It’s only mentioned in the recent web series, as I recall. But a lot of what happens in regards to Hoshi failing to question Gaeta’s erratic behavior in the CIC during the mutiny is due to their relationship. Still, Hoshi’s appearances go back to season 2, so he’s hardly a new character… just a background one.

Random notes:
When Starbuck enters the coordinates into the jump computer, the response from the computer is “Coordinated not verified”. I saw it on freeze frame. Fat fingers from the past!
Lee Adama says “Goodbye Kara, you won’t be forgotten”. Um… here we are in the future, and we’ve all forgotten her. Unless someone can come up with some mythological figure that you can apply, I think her greatest fear has come to pass.
When Admiral Adama is carrying Roslin to the Raptor, you can see how badly that set-piece holds up to direct lighting and how much more work they spent on the side with the door that you normally see.
The Tomb of Athena – 12 constellations to show the way to Earth. Nice idea… but… umm… that doesn’t make any sense if those are the same as our constellations.
Spaceship landing on Earth in the distant past bearing advanced humanoids refugees from a dead civilization who give up technology and supplant the native humanoids? Ship that has a giant bathtub in a central place on the bridge? Lots of alcohol drinking? Where does this sound familiar… Are we sure that this isn’t a “B-Battlestar?” Should they go inspect some glaciers?
Hitchhiker’s guide references.
“B-Ark”
If I had one complaint about the ending, it’s that. And FWIW, lots of sci-fi writers did that ending long before Hitchhikers, so much so that it’s something of a cliche.

Find me another writer that put a bathtub on the bridge. That’s, of course, the key point of the story.
Amusingly HHGG actually deals directly with what BSG avoids.
Arthur: “We have to teach them to evolve Ford.”
Ford: “We know they die out because we’ve seen it happen.”
Admittedly Arthur was from the future.

That’s some far-reaching to explain a totally out-of-character fate for the most important character on the show. More important than the points you listed has been Adama’s characteristic unwillingness to abandon the people most important to him: he spent a year trying to rescue them from New Caprica, burned almost all of the Fleet’s fuel trying to recover Kara when she crashed her ship at the beginning of season 1, and flat-out told his son that he would never leave him. Abandoning the only family he has left when his lover dies? It is nonsensical.

Nonsensical for someone sitting in his armchair, yes. For someone who has just gone through all that shit? Pretty believable to want to be left alone for a while. Even Roslin was all “La la I don’t want to know! Buzz off!” for quite some time. And I repeat; it wasn’t Bill Adama who said “I won’t come back this time.” It was the impression Kara and Lee had, and they might be wrong. Anyway, it doesn’t really matter what we think his plans were, I guess. I’m pretty sure R. D. Moore will address that in some future podcast/blog entry, and then we’ll know for sure.

The problem is that Mr. Moore wanted one of those hackneyed “everyone goes their separate ways” endings, and by god, he wasn’t going to let situational logic stand in the way of it.
That sort of ending works when there’s an extant civilization to disperse to, but when all you have is hostile wilderness and an ill-equipped group of survivors, it’s idiotic.
Whatever you want to say about this show, the first hour and a half of the finale was fucking awesome. That is all.
It’s an alcoholic fantasy ending.
Anyone listen to the most recent podcast? A poster on another forum summarized Moore’s comments from the original plan for Season 4.5 as:
The final battle was going to be between Cavil’s forces and an absolute shitload of rebel basestars accompanying Galactica, and half the civilian ships were going to be totalled. Galactica was going to crash-land on Real Earth. The Final Cylon, Ellen, was going to be a much bigger deal because she was going to side with Cavil voluntarily. Gaeta and Zarek were going to survive and be allowed to take a chunk of the Fleet who agreed with them off to find another planet. Kara was going to find Real Earth based on the gas giant and yellow star shit she was talking about in the first episode of Season 4. The arming of the Baltarettes was going to be followed up on.
Sounds much better to me for the most part.
