Mod support and Rifleman mech

So 8 new mechs and a new Flashpoint. I hope some cool stuff is coming in the patch too as I was hoping the next expansion would bring new ways to play the game.

No Warhammer, Maurader or Archer though, which is a bit upsetting.

According to what I’ve read there will be Archer, Warhammer, and Marauder.

Looks good, although I’m glad it’s part of the season pass because once again the price tag just seems to be way too high on its own.

If that article is a correct that’s a bunch of Unseen 'Mechs getting released. I’ll admit my beloved Orion is a bit of a pig in BattleTech the PC game, having some Warhammer action might be just the ticket. But adding 'Mechs like the Clint and Assassin which are the pinnacle of 3025 bad 'Mechs just makes the early game more fun.

I don’t think the Rifleman will be as effective as it seems on paper. I’ll be curious if the Phoenix Hawk works as well as it did on tabletop - basically an oversized Stinger/Wasp. The Trebuchet is already a great mech - the Archer is just more of that and heavier.

I love 3025 mechs. They’re generally built around some awesome 80s anime rather than being min-max 3/5 machines built by tryhards. This means lots of useless MGs and LLs, bad heat sink placement, and weird armor.

Has anyone clarified that? The release said “new mini campaign” which sounds like it might be more substantial than a Flashpoint, but I haven’t seen any elaboration. Only one new Flashpoint, if it were normal Flashpoint size, would be disappointing.

I think I’ve gotten as much enjoyment out of this game as I am able. It’s okay, but gets repetitive.

Same here.

Thirded.

Yeah, about that. You sit down and play a couple of dozen Battletech P&P games in a row. You’re gonna get burnt out on that, too. Maybe that’s a problem with all “pretty close to P&P” wargame conversions. Wargames are basically the same core loop over and over. And nobody plays, like 100 games of (insert old AH chestnut here) in a row. But it’s pretty easy to do that with computer versions.

As someone who never got to play enough BT P&P as a kid, I’m still pretty thrilled with the direction Jordan & Co. are taking BT.

Yeah, but I still want combined arms welfare. Mechs are great, but commanding a full army, with support would be better

I don’t want not-mechs in my mech game, and I like the lance-level focus of computer BT, even though it does really limit the game’s possibilities.

I think a lot of folks might be happier with a BattleForce implementation, yes? Multiple lances, but not as crunchy individual 'mech rules.

Battletech has cool rules for infantry combat, elementals, VTOLs, turrets, city fighting, and you just want to ignore it in favor of walking tanks?

The Battletech universe is made up of more then just mechs (unless your a stinking clansman), and I was hoping for a game that could better represent the table top version.

Death by food stamps and SSDI?

See, that’s the thing. I don’t want any of this. I call what you listed above “the wargame arms race”. Basically, somebody designs a clean and focused wargame. Everybody plays it to death, and wants more. Designer smells money and begins to dump more chome and goodies into the base design, perhaps making it too damn top heavy. For BT, it was Aeromechs. Tanks. Omnimechs. Elementals. I don’t care about the differences between ICE and fusion engines. Etc. (Another example: Car Wars. Started out as a stripped-down, clean miniatures design of car combat. Then: boats. Tanks. The endless abominations of Uncle Albert…)

I guess that’s also why I like 3025 more than anything else. It’s clean. It’s not min-maxed to boredom. It moves a lot faster than the same game with all the rest of the silly chrome. But then everybody has their preferences!

There was nothing max mined about wanting to represent the full battlefield, even using just 3025 tech.

Heck, according to the lore, Mechs were pretty rare at the time, and most armies relied on Tanks, VTOLs and infantry to cover the missing parts. If you want to play a pure Mech game, you should argue for games set during the first Succession War, when even still had mechs everywhere, instead of 3025.

Most of the merc companies of the 3025 had more infantry and tanks then they did actual mechs.

So, I guess wanting to engage in the source material makes me a min maxer.

The video game would have benefited from a strategic layer or RPG-style “world map”. It has a galaxy map, but other than for choosing the appropriate encounter levels, or adding a bit of flavor to the game, it serves no real purpose. You don’t meet special NPCs, and there are no quests outside of the very linear main campaign (other than repetitive one-off missions).

Well, in campaign mode anyway. In career mode there are Flashpoints in various places. I don’t quite understand why they opted to keep Flashpoints out of campaign mode until after you’ve finished the main story.
