I might be forced to take a break until they fix the slowdown late campaign. It takes so long now to go into and out of mech refitting and just menus in general now that I’m wasting a lot of time and frustration. The slow animations never bothered me, but lag between menus does.

Got through the Smithon mission with all but one of the objectives met, so that was good. The follow on, though, oy vey. I think I am grossly undergunned at this point. I have no heavy mechs, as I had to scrap the one or two I had as they were prohibitively expensive to rebuild and not very good, and the story missions now seem to all have me outnumbered two to one and more than that in tonnage.

And the follow-on to Smithon has no exploding barrels :(

Ah, that’s a terrible feeling. BTDT

Has this been posted yet? The JSON edit seems make a bit of difference.

You have received some other good advice but let me provide my own as I had the EXACT same problem. It is a tough mission.

SPOILERS AHEAD (spoiler tags are not working again)

(1) Walk away for a while. I came back when I had something > 60 tons.

(2) I sent a Wolverine and a Shadow Hawk immediately to the left to deal with the vehicles. There are only two so they can make short work of them by stomping them. Then I had those mechs jump to the hillside and press the attack from that direction against the turrets. Ignore the mechs, kill the turrets with these two. Knocking those offline makes an immediate difference in the output of the firepower.

(3) Meanwhile I had my two heavies - an Orion and a Thunderbolt - press the attack from the center. They first burned down the couple of mechs stupid enough to crest the hill that you start on then they dropped into the water that fronts the base. Sitting in the cold water I was able to unleash a full salvo against everything else that was hitting me.

I did not lose a mech the second time but I swear they burned off every bit of armor on that Orion. The whole mech profile was orange except the head. Nor did we lose a crate.

Does the slow down impact multiplayer games?

That Smithon mission is tough. I did not realize you only needed 6 ammo dumps to survive, so i gave up on stopping the trucks from leaving and was able to complete it. My team was beat up after that mission. You can upgrade the mach bays pretty well but the medical ones are slower (and more expensive) so i carried 7 (maybe even 8 for a time) mech pilots.

I am almost to the last mission now, and the game has gotten a little slower but not bad - 10 -20 seconds to go refit a mech. I have also kept my inventory small. Early on i sold anything that i had more than 12 of (except ammo). Now that i have multiple + weapons in storage I have lowered it to 4. Maybe that can help speed the mechbay transition loads.

I still haven’t progressed the storyline beyond the Argo mission. First Strike is sitting there looking at me, but I’m just having a blast traveling around the local sectors doing contracts. Got my first Hunchback mech now. The last mission was a tough one, an escort mission that began with a couple of light mechs and two vehicles, and ended with four medium mechs between me and the extraction point. Fortunately I did pretty well and escaped with only a months’ worth of repairs and injuries. The Hunchback was a lucky head shot.

After 25 hours I’m not experiencing any slowdown yet, but I’m a long way from having played as much as Jeff. I’ve no problem with the combat speed at all, but hopefully they’ll fix whatever memory leak is causing the slowdown sooner rather than later.

Think I’m in about same place you are, I’ve been bouncing around not progressing main story since I did argo.

I’d sort of like to pick up one or two of these mechs people keep mentioning, heck, I’d really like to just have one heavy just to see what that’s like. I’ll probably just keep bouncing around till luck lands me a mission with a heavy i can headshot or I run across enough to salvage three parts and get one that way.

I’m still enjoying just running missions out and about…

I’m ashamed to admit this, but I completely misunderstood the Smithon mission, and didn’t shoot any of the ammo dumps. No wonder I was so confused by the mechanics and why that mission kicked my face in about 4 times before i beat it. I just assumed I didn’t have enough big mechs to handle the convoy and the defenders.

Wish I could go back and replay it now.

It took me three times before I realized you could shoot the ammo dumps.

About those ammo dumps Especially since one of the ammo dumps will take out those two turrets that are a real PITA. Bonus points if you have one of the enemy light mechs in the damage radius. I wish I was clever enough to figure these things out on the first try. :)

That Smithon mission was a massive PITA. I think I even accidentally caught one of my mechs in an ammo dump explosion my first attempt.

Someone needs to mod the Mechwarrior with the callsign “Whistler” to a dude and bring in voice clips from this guy:

Ok, things are looking up at the moment. After Smithon and the follow up, which only took two tries once I figured it out after my first disastrous attempt, I took a four skull mission that Darious warned me was too much for my under-weight (Dragon, Shadowhak, Treb, Cent) lance. Aced it with no injuries and only armor damage, other than one weapon-less arm that somehow fell off a mech. Probably bad bolts.

Just had a mission I had to ragequit. A defend a base mission. I handily took down the first assault, then for the second wave among other things four light mechs dropped in right on top of the base. They took down a building before I could even react. There was basically no possible way to complete the mission successfully.

My guys were right there ready to defend. The base’s turrets were all online ready to fend off attackers. But when the enemy magically appears right next to the thing you need to defend and gets to shoot first what are you supposed to do?

I’d unironically run him. A little weirded out by so many internet people creeping on Glitch. She’s our employee! Somebody call HR.

Agreed.

When I read this I was all like, “This is a thing?” But then I was all like “Of course this is a thing.”

I mean, I don’t want to unfairly overstate it, but people really like Glitch.
