kerzain, no idea if it matters to you, but B2 is 17GB. That’s a monster of a game at Nintendo’s ridiculously-slow download speeds. I preordered a disk version for just that reason, though I prefer eShop purchases for the Deluxe promotional coins.
The only WiiU game I own on disc in Mario Kart 8, and that came with my console. I have a 500GB external USB drive attached, and I’ve already downloaded games like Pikmin 3, Hyrule Warriors, Windwaker HD, Super Mario 3D World (in addition to a few other small ones ones like Pushmo World and Shovel Knight), and neither the space required or slow download speeds bother me. I prefer to look at the situation long-term: I’d rather spend an extra couple hours downloading for a single day than spend the rest of my life being forced to get up off my ass and hunt down & swap physical media. The games in my Steam Library duplicate the very few games I still own(ed) on disc are a testament to that.
Besides, I’ll just play Civilization: Beyond Earth while waiting for it to download since it comes out the same day (and I’ll play something else while waiting for that, ho ho!).
What is the scoop with B1 being bundled? Is it preorder only, first run, or an always thing. I never played the first one so a twofer sounds great to me.
Looking at the box cover on Amazon it looks like B1 is included; doesn’t look to be gated for pre-orders. But no idea if it’s first run, or not.
EDIT: from the nintendo eshop page:
“Bayonetta comes packed in with the purchase of every retail packaged version of Bayonetta 2. Nintendo eshop purchases of either B or B2 will include an automatic discount on the other game.”
The discount amounts to $60 for both games in the eShop, or $49.99 for B2 and an additional $10 for a discounted B1. No idea what B1 will be priced at as a stand-alone in the eShop.
Thanks guys. I deifinitely plan to pick it up, but my fall gaming cup already runneth over. Since it is single player only, I plan to slot it to a Jan-Feb “release”. That’s the plan anyway. Who knows if said plan will survive the first few rounds of hive mind hype though.
So hyped for this game. Fell in love with the first one after going after pure platinum medals and really digging into the perfect combat system. Glad to see the sequel hasn’t been a let down. 9.8 from Gametrailers.
Damned, amazon seems to imply it will arrive on monday for me. I was hoping on friday but since it hasn’t shipped yet that won’t be the case.
I moved my preorder to GameStop, specifically to avoid having to wait for Amazon (and to avoid having them screw me over again with late shipping, like they did with my preorders for Theatrhythm Curtain Call, SYRO, and Super Smash Bros.).
My copy thankfully arrived today from Amazon and the game is sooooooooo goood, smile been plastered on my face all day long. Currently at chapter 6, been taking my time exploring and replaying a few chapters. Halos feel like they are harder to come by in story mode and everything is expensive, which I like. That shooting minigame is gone, which always gave me a lot of halos/items in the first game. Using items doesn’t count against your score now I think. Tag climax is a lot of fun, competitive yet cooperative at the same time. Got completely smoked the first time I played it, but I went back later using one of the new weapons and did really well. Tag climax gave me a ton of halos, I won a verse where one guy placed a bet and got 40000. I still wish there was a retry verse or reload last checkpoint option in the start menu. I think you have to go back to the main menu like in the first game and reload if you are going for pure platinum medals. Fantastic game overall though, GOTY for me so far.
I got my copy yesterday, but I haven’t started it yet because I wanted to finish The Wonderful 101 first. That should be very soon, though, so the only obstacle after that will be…the urge to replay the first Bayonetta. :|
Special edition arrived today (EU) - so I’m going to play Bayo 1 first before I start the second one.
Been loving all the weapons in Bayonetta 2, but I was missing Odette (the ice skates!) from the first game. Then I got the Salamandra weapons, totally awesome.
I recently fell in love with The Wonderful 101 and having not played Bayonetta I figured now would be as good a time as any to pick up the special edition seeing as the PS3 port was notoriously shite and that’s the only version I really had access to before getting a Wii U. Even if I don’t like it, with it being a Platinum title I’m sure it’ll retain its value should I want to trade it in in the future. The double-pack was one of the things that pushed me towards picking up a Wii U in the first place so I’m really excited to finally be able to give this a go.
Just finished my first playthrough. Fantastic game. I’m torn between playing on a infinity difficulty, exploring tag-team mode, or replaying Bayonetta 1. As much as I loved the game, it did feel just like more Bayonetta. Still, that’s a wonderful thing to be.
I loved playing around with the new weapons as well, but ultimately found I ended up sticking to the swords top and bottom and the bow as my backup set through most of the game. I found myself switching weapons to succeed at some of the Muspelheim challenges, which is pretty neat. I could see wanting to use different weapons in different encounters at infinity difficulty. Some of them seem like they’d pair really nicely with specific accessories I haven’t purchased yet. Typing this out is making me want to go play more…
Got around to finishing my first playthrough today. Loved it the whole way through and it continually exceeded my expectations. My favorite weapons were Alruna and Takemikazuchi, though all the weapons were a blast to use. I felt like the Muspelheim challenges were easier than the Alfheim ones from the first game, but that may because I’m more better now. The only nitpicky gripes I have with the main game are the prevalent invisible walls and the other characters won’t shut up when they are leading you somewhere.
Tag battle is a lot of fun, but it’s bizarre how you can’t change weapons after each verse. Even when a match is over you can’t change weapons unless you leave the game. Joining a game can be a pain too. I’ve never successfully joined a game from the Quick Match option. I guess people either don’t notice the request or they rather play the CPU. To join games I just play the CPU and wait to get a request. Many times I’m so focused on the game I don’t see the request until after the round is over and I have to wait for the game to load the level select menu to accept it, assuming it’s still there.
I still have infinite climax to work through, as well as lost chapters, the platinum ticket battle, hearts/pearls to find, a couple more birds and books to collect, and a ton of costumes and accessories to buy, so I have plenty of hours left to put into this game.
I think the Alfheim challenges in the first game just really are that hard. I still haven’t started Bayonetta 2, but after having zero issues clearing the Kahkoo-regah challenges I came across in The Wonderful 101, I got destroyed by a lot of the Alfheim challenges during my Wii U Bayonetta playthrough.
I haven’t started infinite climax yet, but it looks like the Muspelheim challenges are much harder on that mode. Spent the other day going through the game again getting all the crows, journals, hearts, and pearls. Was kind of annoyed getting all the crows unlocked nothing, but it does contribute to getting the Climax Brace. I like the achievements more than in the first game, looks like getting them all will take a considerable amount of time. I think one of them is to freeze 40 different enemies though which is going to be annoying. Another is getting a Platinum trophy in every chapter, across all difficulties I believe.
I love the Nintendo costumes. I was sorta indifferent to them when I first heard about them, but each costume tweaks the game a bit. Playing as Peach and her wicked weaves are now Bowser’s hands, awesome. It’s great using the Love is Blue guns while wearing the Star Fox outfit which turns them into blasters, heard it also changes the jets that appear in cutscenes. Samus costume can morph into the ball and lay bombs. The Nintendo themed weapon you get for completing 3rd Climax has quickly become one of my favorite weapons.
I had no idea that charging up Takemikazuchi gave it an attack boost for a short time. Giving it a boost before using the Umbran Climax and performing Infernal Weaves makes short work of many enemies. I couldn’t quite get used to the Salamandra weapons at first since it was hard to tell what point of the combo I was at, but I found out when the weapons glow red you can release the button to do an extra attack which does extra damage based on where you did it in the combo. I got to play around with those more now. Also, the combos with pauses feel more intuitive and easier to do than in the first game.
I still have a couple weapons from the first game to unlock so I’ll be working on getting those. Thought you got Shuraba from buying the Link costume, but I guess you got to beat the game again after you buy the costume. I’ll try and stop buying costumes long enough to get the Earrings of Ruin.
Same! Overall, Bayonetta is kicking my ass way more than The Wonderful 101. I find I’m on the brink of dying a lot so I’m popping herb lollies like they’re going out of fashion. Perhaps the most downright annoying fight so far was the one on the motorway against those three 'Joy’s. Joy my ass. Between the cars hitting me and the camera facing the wrong way (so more cars hit me), they were a nightmare to deal with.
What’s really driving me nuts though is the numerous boss fights or enemy encounters that start with a cutscene where the enemy fires something at you or attacks you and the you’re expected to read and evade the attack the moment the cutscene ends. It feels like a really cheap way of putting you on the back foot straight away. For example, that opening salvo of missiles fired from Kinship. Grarggggggh.
I’m really digging it though. I mean, it’s not like The Wonderful 101 didn’t drive me nuts at times.
Does anyone use the target lock? Because for me that button’s more for combos and special attacks than focusing on targets. I’d much prefer target lock to be on L though, it feels really out of place on R.
I finished my second playthrough of Bayonetta 2 last night. This game is frustrating. It’s better in every way compared to the original game – except for combat!
The graphics are nicer, it’s shorter, it has fewer QTEs, the set piece levels are shorter and more tolerable, it’s easier to find the secret levels, and the Tag Climax mode seems handy. Everything looks great and is structured how it should be.
But the combat is so annoying now. I don’t like how they changed witch time to be variable. Some of the times are extremely short. There’s no flow to it. The umbran climax system is cool the first time, but I’d rather play “legit” with normal mechanics. The enemies parry and dodge too much, especially outside of witch time. The encounter design was bland as well. Almost every fight happened in an empty circular room. I thought most of the weapons were a little boring too.
If I felt like digging into a Bayonetta game, it would be the first one. It’s too bad. If they ever do a third game, I hope they combine the good parts from each game.
