Being lazy with Bitlocker-encrypted hard drive?

Here’s a question or two: I have a Bitlocker-encrypted HD PC. I want to sell the PC but don’t want to spend extra time decrypting the drive first and then zeroing it or secure wiping it. If I don’t do that and do a “normal” reformat and reinstallation, I understand that the data could be easily up-for-grabs with undelete/disk recovery tools.

Since the Bitlocker-encrypted container currently is an unusable partition or blob of data, couldn’t I just delete (even if it’s an "insecure reformat/delete/wipe) and reinstall over top of it without decrypting the drive and preserve security in the process?

I don’t see why not. The blob is unreadable if you don’t have the key. Just make sure to reset the TPM chip, because that’s where the bitlocker key is stored.

Thanks, was just thinking it through and needed to bounce off the hive mind.
