Anyone watching the NCAA’s has seen the “There are no Cinderallas” commercial about 50 times, but I love it every time!

Also, there is no way in hell that’s “the best commercial ever.” Maybe my (near) complete lack of interest in sports makes me immune to this?
Obviously you’d have to be a sports fan to think it’s the best commercial ever or to even get any of the references.

It’s a really fantastic ad(wumpus, the football team is Boise State practicing the play that they ran to win the Fiesta Bowl against heavily favored Oklahoma. The point is that while the public sees that as a miracle the victory was the residue of design), but there’s something slightly Orwellian about Nike’s “WORK VERY HARD” message(seetheir equally brilliant Leave Nothing ad from the NFL season).
That isn’t even the best Nike ad ever…
…because that is the best Nike ad ever.
Also, since when is “success requires lots of hard work” an Orwellian message?

I refuse to watch a television commercial on purpose.
Well you’re missing some really good commercials then.
That commercial gave me goosebumps. It really is terrific, absolutely terrific. Best I have seen in a long time.
And that “Dude” one that takes place in Vegas makes me go WTF every time.
Best commercial ever? I’m partial to that old etrade commercial where the guy sees his daytrade stock skyrocket at his cube, walks to his boss’ office to quit and tell him off, and then returns to his cube to see the stock plummeted.
I like both of these ads a lot. You know an ad is good when you stop and watch it, and even get a little excited when you see it start. Even better when you are running on the treadmill and it comes on and you up your speed.
The cinderella ad is awesome because it shows the prep that goes into every big moment of sports. Boise practicing the statue of liberty is a nice touch.
Here’s one I always liked:
And this spoof really shouldn’t be as funny as it is -
I kind of like this one, just for the “your agility owes my agilty 20 bucks” line.

You don’t see anything faintly Orwellian about your television exhorting you to greater and greater effort?
As opposed to all the other things my television exhorts me to do?
No.
Also, this is in the context of athletic competition where greater effort often equals better results.
I wish Nike would throw some viral marketing dollars my way too.

I really dig this commercial too. There’s a lot of subtle stuff that could easily be missed, like the Appalachian State logo (whose Division II-A squad beat Michigan last year in one of the biggest college football upsets of all time), or the use of this year’s Georgetown team, led by John Thompson III, son of John Thompson, who’s seen earlier in the video losing to Villanova in one of the greatest college basketball upsets ever. It’s like they’re running from the ghosts of upsets past.
Of course, #2 Georgetown was upset today by #10 Davidson, which will put a whole new spin on the commercial.

The genius of Nike’s marketing scheme has always been in the way their commercials really don’t advertise Nike products at all. They promote ideals that their target market approves of with the hoped-for effect of consumers associating the Nike brand with those ideals.
