BF42 played better for me this year because I FINALLY got cable modem, game is fun even with assholes playing, because its hilarious the shit that happens. Other older games like UT2k3 and Quake 3 (and mods for respective games) I also replayed again. Played some Blades of Darkness a few months ago, was pretty good after getting the hang of the combat. Someone should make a Die by the Sword 2, or something like it. Replayed very briefly, a couple days, a friends EQ account when the Dungeons expasnion was released… still too slow gameplay… but surprised that the game still held up very well against other mmrpgs I’ve played this year from Shadowbane, AC2 and DAOC. Also delved back into a bit of Age of Mythology for a couple weeks… great RTS. I actually think the RTS genre has reached its peak the past couple years with a lot of good titles, even the ‘less popular’ titles like Battle Realms and Empire Earth I still have installed and play every oneceinawhile.
Which crappy demo was that? The Wake Island demo was fantastic, I thought. It’s also pretty much single-handedly responsible for turning an obscure game from an obscure developer into a best-seller.

IIRC there was a singleplayer demo that was released about two months (or something like that) ahead of the Wake Island trial. And everyone who knows the singleplayer value of BF1942 can pretty much understand why that demo wasn’t really thrilling. ;)
Yeah, the single player demo was one of the especially nondescript desert maps (the name escapes me at the moment) and apart from featuring BF1942’s iffy AI, it was buggy. I couldn’t even bind the keys properly. I had dismissed the game at that point but gave the Wake Island demo a shot when it was released and, of course, it’s the multiplayer where the game shines. Dice had also fixed some of the issues from the initial demo, too.
Games from the year (or two) before that I’m still playing:
UT2003
Deus Ex
Ghost Recon
Diablo II
Age of Mythology
Dungeon Siege

As JF and Creole said I had only played the single player demo. It was really bad.
Thankfully the full game with patches is light years better.
I hadn’t tried the Wake demo as I still had dialup modem at that stage.
Games played most in 2003. Many (most) were published long before…
Gothic
Gothic II
Morrowind
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Baldur’s Gate 2 (for the 2nd time)
GTA III
Jedi Knight Outcast
Europa 1400
Freespace 2
Age of Wonders
Battlezone
Icewind Dale 2
West Front (my first venture into real wargames)
