Best TV intros / title sequences

A sister thread to the Best movie intros / title sequences. There’s been a lot of great ones recently, but to kick it off I’m going with this intro from an anime, yes anime, 1998s Cowboy Bebop

HBO has got some pretty badass openings for their shows.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS love Rockford.

/thread. Plain and simple.

I was gonna post Airwolf! Nice!

They do and Boardwalk Empire has to be my favorite - you can’t go wrong when you combine Steve Buscemi and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

The 80’s had the coolest TV intros.

And many had pretty good songs to go with them

Best combination TV series intro and tourism ad ever!

The Dexter intro was always perfect at setting the mood:

Well, if we’re doing cartoons:

And Batman:TAS:
The grand-daddy of all the DC animated universe, Batman had a full orchestral score for most episodes, and the intro is no different. The music is perfectly timed with the animated sequences, and it leans into the gothic-noir vibe of the show.

Justice League:
A descendant of the above, but entirely different in tone. Has more epic heroicness in 70 seconds than every movie Zach Snyder has directed combined. The abstract art-deco sequences are still perfect, nd while the CG rendering on Wonder Woman in particular hasnt aged well (although honestly, it didn’t look much better on release), that’s the lone small check against it.

I’ll see your pitch for the 80’s and raise you by the 70’s:

…and the best ever!

Three modern intros that I love:

tied with

and finally…

Many above mentioned are great, here are a few more from my youths.

Honorable mentions for good intro music:

70s,80s, how about something super 90s

and

(bonus for the last one if you’ve played TF2:)

Barney Miller

The Avengers

“Johnny” Williams… Lost in Space Season 3!

No love for the original Outer Limits?

HBO has had some pretty great ones:

Carnivale:

The Wire:

True Detective:
