Goddammit Schmidt, you just broke my brain.
Could somebody please put this through Songsmith and ruin my day.
Microsoft already has “Science is Cool” to ruin your day.
That Songsmith commercial is terrible but it is clearly just an internal production of Microsoft Research, not like part of a real marketing campaign. Apple certainly can’t cast any stones when it comes to these stupid internal “commercials”:
I cannot see how that is supposed to advertise for something, whereas the Songsmith ad clearly presents a product.
That Songsmith video advertises a product avaliable for $29.95 and they show the box several times. How is that internal?
Just because they used aspects of real ads doesn’t mean it they made it for widespread marketing purposes. If it were a for-reals product ad they’d brand it Microsoft, not Microsoft Research. But ultimately what matters is whether this ad is actually being run anywhere other than viral video sites, because I’ve seen no indication that it is.
I think it matters.
I think it’s clear that it was made by MS’ marketing whereas the Apple one was clearly just programmers goofing around.
And the reason it’s branded MS research is that Microsoft marketing thinks it’s a cool product and want to emphasize that it was invented by the clever boffins at MS Research.
That it might be an ad that some non-moronic executive canned and it shouldn’t have been released doesn’t make the thought process of the people behind making it any less retarded.

Yeah, so MS tends to make internal videos make points across divisions. Remember the box art one?

Fuck you, Pelosi.
And before you ask, no, this doesn’t belong in the P&R Youtube thread.
Hilarious! Of course, everybody knows that stormtroopers are entitled to their own favorite cheeses.
Are you sure it belongs in the “Best Youtube videos” thread? :)

Ya, definitely bad Rick Roll technique displayed here. She lingered way too long with the cats.
Like one of the comments said, I practically shed a tear at the nostalgia there. What an excellent vid.
A really well-done documentary about comics super heroes with tons of interviews (Dave Gibbons, Neal Adams, Stan Lee, Quesada, Sienkiewicz, etc etc)
Part one here…yeah, it’s 10 parts, but it’s worth it, I think:
