Couple of nice Dogfight segments – CGI re-creation with commentary from the WW II P51 pilot. He shot down 1 Me 262 and 4 109s while engaging a lot more than that by himself in solo defense of a bomber group. It’s not explained where the rest of his fighter squadron was at the time.

About the seemingly ridiculous maneuver he pulls in the first part of the second video – is that really possible as depicted in the CGI? Looks like it would tear the plane apart – seems like he’s dumped several hundred mph in an instant and is somehow spinning in place. Perhaps the actual maneuver was a bit less violent? Is this maneuver reasonably reproducible in a flight sim?

That was amazing. I think that show is on Discovery here… I’ll have to watch it.
Good thing he did something heroically and incredibly dangerous instead of just waiting for the cavalry to show…
