It’s awesome because it’s believable and people started posting it on Facebook calling her “brave” (my take was “daft”, but hey). Turns out it’s viral marketing by the Visit Denmark bureau, which is using tax money to get foreigners to come visit our fair country because our blondes are loose and stupid. That’s the kind of message I can get behind.

Well, she is gorgeous, so they cast her right at least. Perhaps they thought the controversy this would stir up would work for the campaign.

As they mention, it’s an old trick. I’d first heard of it several years ago as a study intended to measure a person’s capacity to understand delayed gratification. In the story told to me, however, it was piece of chocolate. Surely that’s much more tempting than a boring ol’ marshmallow!

Also, you have to be very careful about making it clear to the child that it’s perfectly okay if he eats the marshmallow. It seems to me that some of the kids in that video think they’re not supposed to eat it.

And I love the little girl who tries to eat away the edges while still leaving the core. I wonder if she got a second marshmallow.

It’s a sort of famous child behavior study which comes up in a lot of child development books.

Apparently, performance on this test is a better indicator of future performance in school than any type of IQ test.

I loved what the kid did at the very end when she said he could go ahead and eat them. Ha! Kids are so cute.
