Strangely, it’s very much like the Washington Post buys Slate thread.

I was holding in tears until he said “reciprocation dinglearm,” and then I couldn’t hold back anymore.

The most confusing thing about this is how “Bud” manages to maintain a straight face through the entire thing.
Part of the beauty is that the dialogue has been reused multiple times.

Tree branch on a power line, which kind of reminds me of STALKER anomalies.

That was indeed pretty awesome.
From a physics viewpoint, I’m postulating that the moisture in the bark was transmitting the current and heating up progressively until the bark was set aflame, turning it into a moisture-less crisp that no longer transferred electricity.
I’m curious about that electric humming sound that occurs after it pops, though. It seems that moisture is expelled all at once and the current continues to travel through it in midair.
Found this one in related videos.
Wow.
You’re certainly right about the branch heating up - so all that noise at the start is the sap boiling away and popping. At the end though, once it’s basically burnt all the way along, it’s actually turned it a giant carbon stick, which is VERY good at conducting - so you then get a huge current flow through which basically vaporises the rest of the branch. And leaves you with that nice plasma arc (which is what’s making the “electric” noise). As it’s so hot, it rises rapidly.
The physics of plasma arcs is pretty fuzzy (as is my knowledge of them), but once it starts, it’s actually a pretty conductive path, which is how they maintain themselves longer than you’d expect. Basically they form am electrical connection through the air.

Ahhh, I knew someone had to have better theories than mine. I didn’t consider the tree sap angle. Very nice.

The chuckling of the person operating the camera makes this one.
I have to wonder if I wasn’t influenced by the comments, because once it went up I involuntarily said “Awesome!!!” in my coolest voice. Awesome.
