Bill O'Reilly: Less educated than Jessica Alba

Daaaaamn.

http://www.tmz.com/2009/01/27/jessica-alba-was-right-we-were-wrong/

Certainly very gracious about it, too.

Our sincerest apologies.

Insert further slander and goofy picture of Alba to demonstrate sincerity.

I despise Papa Bear, and Alba may very well be intelligent. I still think she probably meant Switzerland, said Sweden, and was lucky enough after the fact to discover Sweden was, actually, neutral. If she had gone with Spain I might give her more benefit of the doubt. Or Lichtenstein. Everyone knows those guys never fight.

Meh, depends on your point of view. Sweden was officially neutral but like the Swiss with Nazi banking etc., the waters were muddy as all hell. Nazi troops were allowed to travel thru Sweden, they aided the Finns against Russia as well. Alba really wins on mere snark technicality points here.

Ah, so according to TMZ, she was talking about current politics. Meh. I wouldn’t put Spain as very neutral either robsam. Franco and Hitler were quite buddy buddy.

She might have meant Switzerland, but still in the context of WWII. TMZ’s snarky comment ignores that such actions live long after their time and become iconic examples of said thing.

There’s a potential she really made a mistake - but it is certain that they got it wrong.

Point taken, but if you look up neutral countries in WWII, Spain normally pops up, and it seems more likely to stick in the memory of the average American high school graduate.

I know this is a stretch, but someone can be a totally hot actress AND have a passing familiarity with history.

Their response is spectacularly immature.

She is absolutely correct – when the Nazis were waging war on anyone who opposed Hitler’s evil rule, Sweden remained neutral and stayed out of the war. After the war, Winston Churchill referred to Sweden as “that small, coward country.”

What the shit does that have to do with anything?

Of course, the comments are filled with ‘lol jessic alba shuld apologiz 2 u 4 bein a c-word’. I’m hardly an Alba fanboy, but when she’s right she’s right and throwing a hissy fit only makes you look petulant, guys.

The blog compounds it’s mistake by suggesting, in the last sentence of the post, that Sweden, unlike Switzerland, isn’t neutral today.

Apparently, her mom is Danish, which raises the likelihood that she actually said what she meant to say.

They mistake the contribution of Sweden to the ISAF in Afghanistan as an aggressive action.

Sigh. I had never heard of TMZ before reading this thread. Now I know to stay the hell away from it. Thank you.

Respectfully

Bill O’Reilly doesn’t know his History.

Wow. I clicked that link, heard the godawful Family Guy bit and turned it off. Please tell me that’s not actually in the show.

I’m going to saide with Spain being neutral as well. Yes, Franco Spain and Hitler Germany had a similar political ideology, and both Axis powers aided Franco during the Spanish Civil War, but thats as far as the alliance went. During WWII, Spain did not contribute troops or give other aid to the Axis allies. Furthermore, it traded with England through out the war. Spain and Germany might be described as allies in times of peace, but when the war started Spain sat on the side lines.

Well, Franco had nothing else to win, and a lot to lose (and nothing to lose by being ‘neutral’ either). He wasn’t exactly ‘benevolently neutral’ either; Franco wasn’t any saint.

I wouldn’t go so far as to call Spain all that neutral during World War II. Franco with a wink and a nod let the Blue division of volunteers fight for the Germans on the Eastern Front. Sure they were technically legal, but they don’t fit in the spirit of the word.

I think this is probably the closest to the truth…

This.
