Bin Laden been dead'n

Nice to see some Americans are taking a more critical look at the issue:

Now if a few tens of thousands more reasoned along the same lines, you might all avoid the possible tag of, ‘America, land of the neo-fascist’.

You’re doing the “Zak sounds dumb because he can’t post without stereotyping” thing again. Just thought you’d want to know.

So is neo-fascism better or worse than regular old fascism? Because if they have a better dental plan, maybe I do want to get behind it.

An absence of critical thinking and fact-based arguments is sad even if it accidentally arrives at the right conclusions, which is doubtful in this case. Virtually everything he cites as precedent is defined in the most childlike terms, whether it’s lynching, the Magna Carta (which almost certainly did not represent what he vaguely alleges it did), or Nuremberg. He doesn’t know shit, and because you don’t know shit, it resonates with you. If you both want to label America land of anything, that’s fine with me so long as you understand that you are sacrificing the prospects of your supposed mission for the personal gratification of being a bitchy little troll.

Perhaps you’re on the wrong website. If you’re going for the crazy street preacher approach to discourse, you should consider Free Republic, where some of your stereotypes are alive and posting furiously in the kind of broken English and half-formed rhetoric that’s going to make you feel right at home. Just tell them the LIEBERALSSS!!11! down the hall couldn’t deal with your truthiness, and they’ll find some radical conservative niche that suits you.

Lizard King, some of us are just not ok supporting the murder of innocent people so a small bunch of the mega-rich can become even richer. It’s not the kind of ‘truth’ of what this is all about that is easy to get behind. Heck i feel a whole load of sympathy to guys like you(or maybe you are not frontline?) that risk their lives so someone else can ensure their family does not have to work again, and gets all the trappings of a millionaires life style.

Post neo-con era(and that started back with Strauss teaching in the usa), the lie is all it is about. I really hate people risking their lives for that, and i really hate the situation that has arisen out of it, where over a million civillians(and counting) have died because of these lies that exist simply to make a small clique of the mega rich even richer. You can say all you like about ‘welcome to the real world’, ‘your delusional fantasies’ etc, but all i’ll say to you is so which is it?

Because either the real world IS all about you guys(soldiers) dying so ‘Cheney III’(etc) gets his yacht OR i’m completely delusional? It can’t really be both.

Btw i still find it amusing how you use the conflicting sides of disparagement to try to carry on with your character assassination. I’m either an intellectual elite thinking i’m so superior(with all the connotations of being easy to hate by regular joe) OR i’m a simple dumbass? Please pick one and stick with it, as the flip-flopping around this does you no favours.

I’m not a peace-nik either, and i’ve already said i’m happy Bin Laden is dead. I just wish people(is that better than ‘amercians’?) on your side of the pond would show a bit more critical distance around all this, as by simply following the lie laid out for you all is nopt going to end well for you guys, in the sense of you liking freedom and democracy etc.

That is a very good question actually. So far it seems that if you are part of the apparatus that is being used to have the war on terror, you can make a small fortune(Haliburton, Big Oil, BAE, PMC’s etc). So from that point of view it is a good thing.

If you are not part of that clique, which most of us are not, then it is a net loss so far, with some very murky and unpleasent stuff around the corner. As a guy fighting the actual war you are set to lose(morality, mental health, physical health etc). As a civilian in any set war zone for the war on terror you are really screwed(1 million deaths and counting). As a civilian in america or other western european countries you are also a loser, thousands of us have died already and more will in the future no doubt. As a lover of freedom and democracy you are a loser so far; Patriot Act, retinal scans, dna databases, detention without charge for upto 30 days(or is it now 60?) etc.

And lets not forget the huge budget deficits that will/are biting hard, hitting the economy etc. We are all paying for this war on terror and the only ‘winners’ are the guys i mentioned in that first group above. Everyone else is losing so far, with those loses set to get much more extreme and damaging.

I must say I found this wonderful videoof kids reacting to Osama death to be very encouraging.

By and large the kids get it, certainly better than many QT3 folks.

I have never accused you of being intellectual.

Could you be more specific about what “it” is? The kids in that video seemed to have a wide variety of opinions.

The Washington Post has an interesting article on some of the material found at the compound.

Osama bin Laden was preoccupied with attacking the United States over all other targets, a fixation that led to friction with followers, according to U.S. intelligence officials involved in analyzing the trove of materials recovered from the al-Qaeda leader’s compound.

In handwritten journals and long-winded compositions saved on computer hard drives, the officials said, bin Laden always seemed to be searching for a way to replicate the impact of al-Qaeda’s most devastating strike.

He exhorted followers to explore ways to recruit non-Muslims “who are oppressed in the United States,” in the words of one official — particularly African Americans and Latinos — and to assemble a plot in time for the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Even while sealed inside a cement compound in a Pakistani city, bin Laden functioned like a crime boss pulling strings from a prison cell, sending regular messages to his most trusted lieutenants and strategic advice to far-flung franchises, including al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Yemen. Some followers pledged their fealty to him; others, however, chafed at his exhortations to remain focused on U.S. targets instead of mounting less risky operations in places such as Yemen, Somalia and Algeria.

“Bin Laden is saying, ‘You’ve got to focus on the U.S. and the West,’ ” said a senior U.S. intelligence official who was involved in reviewing the stockpile, adding that some of bin Laden’s followers seemed more concerned with regional issues and were reluctant to conduct an attack that would provoke an American response.

Ta-Nahesi Coates has the best take on the discussion over bin Laden’s death that I have seen.

Found this:

Pornography found in bin Laden hideout

(Reuters) - A stash of pornography was found in the hideout of Osama bin Laden by the U.S. commandos who killed him, current and former U.S. officials said on Friday.

The pornography recovered in bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, consists of modern, electronically recorded video and is fairly extensive, according to the officials, who discussed the discovery with Reuters on condition of anonymity.

Pics or it didn’t happen, much like his actual death.

I heard that in response the MPAA has just released a statement condemning the 9/11 attacks.

Current word is that they don’t want to release the death photos because they might get photoshopped with Princess Beatrice’s Cthulhu hat. Which might end up as a recruiting tool for Al Qaeda.

You must have missed the post where he decided people calling him stupid was meant as a compliment for how smart he is.

Get what? That ignorance shouldn’t stop you from spouting your opinion?

The pornography recovered in bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, consists of modern, electronically recorded video…

As opposed to modern, mechanically recorded video?

Yeah, right. Like as if we expected him to only use flip card technology to satisfy his pornographic video needs.

He could have been a connoisseur of porn on 16mm film.
