Bizzare Stuff

This is not a troll. I am watching TLC right now and they are running a show on crop circles. Now I thought these had been debunked a few years back but my (admittedly not THAT in-depth) googleing hasn’t turned up anything except conspiracy theories about the debunkers, no scholarly or reputable sources (such as also-in-print magazines) talking about debunking crop circles as a mysterious phenomenon.

Anyone have any info on this? In particular any info on crop circles being debunked as “mysterious”. Theories as to the real origin of crop circles also welcome if they have not been debunked.

Well, I saw some special on TV (can’t remember what the name was) where they actually hooked up with a group of people who made crop circles, and tagged along with them as they created one. They even filmed the whole thing with overhead time lapse photography.

They did a fairly complex one too-- the only “tools” they used were boards, rope (think protractor), and a pre-built design on graph paper. This all took ~6 hours as I recall.

The TLC crop-circle show came out around the time “Signs” was released – it was really just taking advantage of the residual hype from the movie.

John Lundberg, Rod Dickinson and Wil Russell are the artists who demonstrated elaborate crop-circle making on UK TV (and fooled the “circle believers”) a few years ago – their web site is http://www.circlemakers.org. Still doing it, and have some beautiful examples there.
