Blizzcon soon-to-be megathread

So, Blizzcon this weekend. Playable WoWEP1. Tournaments. Duelling webcomic artists. People in very inappropriate cosplay. Should be fun :)

There will be streaming video coverage at http://www.ggl.com/mediaplayer/
Streaming audio coverage at http://listen.radioitg.com/listen1.pls

Will there be a QT3 meetup? Will Tom Chick wear a beret? Will twosixteen show up wearing a beanie with the koontzcube instead of a propeller, and promptly be beaten within an inch of his life?

I’d have gone but it’s on halloween weekend, no game can compete with halloween parties, also I have an anniversary saturday, and the ticket prices were like, almost half my e3 alcohol budget, which is a bit much for a one game show. Though the dumb pet thing looks ok, whatever its called.

Yeah, I’d love to go but it’s rather expensive to fly out just for a fan convention. I’m sure the attendees will have a lot of fun. They get a lot of bang for the buck too, with a concert by the Offspring, a goodie bag with a t-shirt I’m sure they can hawk on eBay for good money, etc.

Somehow I don’t think your halloween parties will compete with the after hours ones there.

To be clear: this isn’t intended as solely a thread for a meetup. It’s a “Keep all the Blizzcon news in one place” thread in a (ultimately futile, I’m sure) attempt to keep WoW stuff from overrunning the games forum with several different posts.

Post news as it happens, and I’ll float links up to the first post, give credit where due, that sort of thing.

Yeah, if you’re into zaftig soccer moms wearing chainmail bikinis you are so set.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that only losers and insane fat chicks go to fan cons.

P.S. I did mean to imply that only losers and insane fat chicks go to fan cons.

Er, Los Angeles has pretty damned decent halloween parties. Plus, no fat guys in female dwarf outfits.

I just want to know what the heck is up with Starcraft: Ghost.

Then it’s really not worth going to see, is it?

Absurd costumes are what Halloween is all about. Absurd costumes and scaring children. Often, these two go hand-in-hand.

Halloween is a great excuse for hot girls to dress with a much higher filthy whore quotient than normal and go out to seriously-no-fucking-around-party until dawn. That’s what it’s all about.

I think I remember an Onion list from a few years ago. It went something like:

Top Halloween Costumes Worn by Girls

Slutty Vampire
Slutty Nurse
Slutty Witch
Slutty French Maid
Slutty Pirate
Slutty School Girl
Slutty Prostitute
etc.

Not to completely derail, but check out the West Hollywood ‘parade’ thing sometime. Plenty of crazy, crazy costumes. Hell a few years ago I saw a FLAMING mohawk guy. Like as in, fire, not the normal WeHo flaming.

I hope so. I’ve heard so much about American cons, I’d be disappointed if it wasn’t like a scene from Galaxy Quest, with the jokes swapped for gut wrenching horror.

(I’m going. I doubt anyone will see me, but my name’ll be on my press-tag.)

KG

US$120 for a baby murloc pet? I at least expect a purple for that kind of cash.

But a purple item wouldn’t gurgle all day long, would it?

$120 for a Murloc pet, 2 days of Concentrated Nerd Funk, standing behind some gargantuan unwashed poorly socialized ape waiting (im)patiently for your 30s turn at the WoW expansion pack stuff, and listening to the real life version of the goddamn WoW general forum.

Oh yeah, and Ghost too. :)

why is ghost at a blizzard convention?

Starcraft Ghost? no idea.

Yeah I dont get that one either.

Because Blizzard is co-producing the game (theoretically) and it’s based on one of their IPs?
