Nice one newbrof! That’s my favorite area of the game for sure. I also wondered about whether that long ladder leading to the first area was trickery or really part of the geometry of the level design that lined up. I suppose it doesn’t really matter with a ladder that big.
Numbers 2 and 3 done. Just 1 and 4 left. And as far as I know, no other loose ends for me to tie up. Just DLC and main game, one path left each.
Oh by the way, when I logged back in earlier, there was already a player there, beating on me. But I wasn’t taking damage. I walked away a bit and they bowed or waved or something, and I hit them and ran away. I started killing my normal enemies but they followed me. So I started attacking them. They weren’t very good, so I killed a human player for the first time. I don’t think I got anything for it. No experience or items or anything. Oh well. At least no one has invaded me since. Maybe that put a stop to it?

Rom down, waiting for someone to summon me for help with her (if the past is any guide as soon as I hit “post” that will happen). I remember the next bit through the unseen village (which looks like the rest of Yharnam and not like any village I’ve ever seen) being a pretty madcap dash. Sigh.
The Unseen Village is a pretty nice area overall. It’s the only place where I feel like I missed a bell ringing woman somewhere. Right around the area where the tripods are targeting you with a laser as you run like hell, I bet there’s a bell ringing woman somewhere over there who is resurrecting everyone. There has to be, right?
Meanwhile, I got some Lady Maria practice in last night. I can consistently get her to the blood stage now. But I still die almost immediately after that, so my practice time “with blood” is still really low, unfortunately. I need a way to survive longer in that stage so that I can get more practice. If I stand too far, I die fast, if I stand too close I die fast. I need to find a nice medium range to stand maybe.

I have a feeling she’s going to be a, “how the hell did I do this last time” moment for me.
I feel like she could be as fun to fight as Knight Artorias in Dark Souls, if I could just observe her long enough for my brain to start learning patterns. But for that to happen, my brain needs more data. I can’t just die, that’s not data.

She is way faster than Artorias. I don’t want to toot my own horn or anything, but I did Artorias first try, with no grinding, and Lady Maria took me many tries, and I ground like a madman in Bloodborne (as you recall from our silly level disparity).
Oh yeah, I forgot all about that. After all, I have access to the pigs now. Maybe I should spend an evening just killing pigs and leveling up. Maybe with more health I can survive more blood hits.
I was doing the pigs, and I totally remembered, oh yeah, I forgot that one dude from the DLC. Let’s go take care of him, I only tried him once.
I died 3 times, but got him on the fourth try.
His last form is very amusing, and yet deceptively dangerous. I was laughing and dying.
(The secret to the fight is the camera. If you don’t lock onto him, the camera doesn’t go apeshit).

Nobody will let me help them kill the one reborn. :(
Oh man, so I went back to Lady Maria, and it looks like I overdid the leveling up earlier today. I had gone from 1000 hp to about 1500 hp, thinking I’d have much more health to work with.
What I completely forgot about is that by dedicating that hour to the pigs, I also increased my defense each time I leveled.
So this time when I went to Lady Maria, even in the blood phase she hardly did any damage to me. Instead of two blood swipes killing me, it didn’t even take 20% of my health. Anyway, it looks like I basically leveled myself out of a good fight. I guess I should have leveled up maybe only 5 levels or something, and then gone back to see how it felt, etc.

I think I am just not going to get to help anyone kill TOR. Sad. Even on a five year old game I’ve managed to co-op every boss I’ve fought so far, both helping and being helped. Pretty crazy, actually. At least I got a cool screenshot while waiting:
Now the Nightmare of Mensis. Truly nightmarish. I think I am much lower level this time than the last time I went through here. Level 61 or 62. Hard going. Got slaughtered by the spiders I was able to hold off handily last time.

I see people saying NoM is a lvl 50 - 70 area. Like how could you even get here and be 50, just running past every monster? I have only lost a few thousand echoes, like maybe 5 or 8 thousand, to deaths, but I’ve also skipped almost every optional path and I’m still way past 50.

Stuck at Shadows of Yarnham or whatever those jerks call themself. The boss run is so typical FROM style, elevators, running past enemies until you get to the boss door. There are actually 2 shortcuts to the boss, but the one through the woods and the gate is kind of harder.
I think online is not working properly at the moment. The bells were disabled, I quit and went back, the bells were working for a few minutes.
I don’t like this fight, because it is like running in circles around that large tombstone… it feels a bit silly. If I put the time into it, I might get it. I am already level 52. I think I am strong enough.
I spent the morning doing Chalice Dungeons.
It’s all so convoluted, for no discernible reason. Why couldn’t they just have a menu with a set of linear dungeons that got unlocked one after the other? Why this mess with ingredients and all this other stuff?
Anyway, I think I finally figured out the 1st Altar, 2nd Altar, etc have nothing to do with the dungeons. They are just like places for you to hold dungeons open. So when I created that first dungeon and then removed it, all I really did was make room in case all 7 alters were full and I wanted to create an 8th one.
And when you create a chalice dungeon, at least the non-random set ones, you usually get the ingredients you need for the next one. But sometimes you don’t. I did one, two, three dungeons, but I couldn’t do a fourth one because after doing the third one, I didn’t have the ingredients. How to get the ingredients for a fourth one? Well, it requires a Loran ingredient. I’d just been doing chalices that started with the letter P, but I also can do Chalices in multiple tabs, one that starts with H, and one that starts with L, and one that starts with a different letter. But I didn’t have the ingredients for any of those. But it turns out I can buy some of the ingredients at the insight bath.
Anyway, so after I couldn’t do the fourth P Chalice, I bought the ingredients that I needed for the first L Chalice and hopped in there. I’m now on the second level of the L Chalice.
These are actually pretty fun. The worst one was that first one, these others have been fairly fun. Lots of exploration, enemies, bosses. Lots of treasure that’s completely mysterious.
These are very time-consuming too, but I need a break. Time for some American Football.

There are always spots where the bells don’t work; you may have just been too close to the fog gate. For the Shadows you need to be on the stairs. I can help with them if you need.

huh, I wonder why they did it that way. In Souls you could put your sign down right next to the fog door. This must be it, because I was at the fog gate of the shadows when I tried to ring the bell…
I will try tomorrow… I might want to ping you, if you are available… I will try solo a couple of times, but I probably will try multiplayer if it will not work out…

I will be available most of the day, just let me know! I think the BB system is inferior to the souls one in practically every way.
I feel bad. It looks like I killed an orphan.

How many tries did it take you? I was stuck on that asshole for at least a week.
