Heh. Great point. :)
Also of note, this tiny area of the game had four PSN trophies associated with it. That partially explains why you had so many more trophies than me.

You found your way to the sekrit area, then?
I got PS+, remember? The messages won’t let me miss secret areas even if I wanted to. :)
Although to be fair, that still had me missing the Cathedral key in the first place. But my excuse is that it was because there was a giant freaking laser beam shooting me from the sky at the time, so I didn’t get the chance to read the messages pointing the way to the key.
Does Dark Souls II get this reprieve as well? Hehe

Everything aside from Dark Souls seems extremely compressed.

I love maps like that. :)
Oh my god you guys. Have you fought the Abhorrent Beast? Gosh that was fun. The first time the guy I had summoned to help me explore Layer 3 of the dungeon got lost on one of the bridges, and I couldn’t find him, so I think the boss still had the extra hit points, but I didn’t have the advantage of someone actually helping with defeating him. I had him almost down to nothing that first time, but he’s so tough, it was a long, long fight, and I ran out of my 24 hand vials and then I was pretty much dead after that.
Then the next three times I tried him with the companion’s help, and even though he got me 2 more times, it was still a much easier fight with a AI companion to help. It was just a matter or trying to keep the AI companion alive a little longer so that I could finish off the beast.
Anyway, amazing fight, I highly recommend the Ailing Loran Chalice, both for the Blood Starved Beast and for the Abhorrent Beast. Both great fights.
Some great bosses hidden away in that tedious chalice dungeon system.
I guess when we get a PS6 that can play it at 60 fps I’ll have to grind through them again.
Sooooooooooo close. Look at that health. I was going in for the final blow instead of backing off and the chandalier suddenly came into the camera view so I didn’t see who won. Was it me or her?
This was my 10th attempt I think.

I have been avoiding logging on because I just can’t get interested in running the Nightmare of Mensis again, even for a different ending, but reading @Rock8man’s adventures in the chalice dungeons got me to do a little dungeon diving of my own and suddenly I’m interested again. Looks like I got through Central Phthumerian last time, so I just dove the first layer of Lower. My old pals the Shadows again, but in a different guise. Oh, and I didn’t miss the Holy Moonlight Sword after all, but my arcane is only 8, so it’s going to take some leveling before I can put it to good use.
I spent an hour this morning before getting ready for work, trying to take down Keeper of the Old Lords. Damn it, this one is tough. It’s kind of like a Hunter fight, but also a boss fight. I can consistently get her down to the last quarter of health now, but man, she gets really dangerous once she puts fire paper on her weapon. Then two hits kills me.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention, one of the things about this dungeon is that it’s cursed, so I only get half health. So instead of 1611 health, I get 805. What that means in practical terms is that in this fight I can normally take 3 hits, unless she hits me with a heavy hit first, then I can only take two hits. So I’m back to being super vulnerable. It’s tough.
It reminds me of Demon’s Souls, where I was always running around at half health.

I hate how they gate the multiplayer behind getting that initial insight point. I realize it ought not to be that hard, but my younger brother, who is not great at fast-paced action games, has the game and I want to co-op with him, but he got his ass handed to him in Central Yharnam so hard (and they DO make that initial section overly punishing, in my opinion) that he hasn’t really gone back to it, and I just…can’t help him, because he has to get to the Cleric Beast before he can summon me in.
Best approach might be running to it. Silly, I know.

Oh, that’s definitely the best approach. The trouble is getting him to do it! It’s a quick run, but there are a LOT of enemies looking to trip you up on the way, and he’s discouraged by said ass handing.

I have watched a couple guys co=op this on youtube and it does seem like they could have made it much easier. DS3’s ease of co-op may be a result of how poorly the Bloodborne system turned out to be. DS3’s long life and constant people seems to be a result of the ease of the multi=player system.
I’m definitely tempted to go back to DS3 now to see if any of my newfound Bloodborne skills will translate or not. I feel like I’m way, way better at evasion than I ever was in the Dark Souls series, just because I don’t have blocking as an option. I wonder if that will help or hurt when I go back to DS3?
You up for some coop Chalice action Kolbex? This present dungeon is the first one I created while marking the “Shared Online” box. One big difference: this one has messages from other players. And I assume it means I can somehow invite you to it maybe for some help?
