Blue Ruin

Watched this last night and liked it a lot. Not sure if Blood Simple is a very fair comparison. There are plenty of dark chuckles in Blood Simple; I didn’t find much to laugh at here. Drive feels much closer in mood. I love the inevitability of this film. Here is a protagonist (and antagonist(s)) who just won’t let anything go - he fucking drives around in his parents’ murder mobile! Loved the friend and the burning of the Polaroid. Liked the contrast between our guy (cool and calm) and the dark haired sister at the end (seething rage). Loved the kid at the end and the final little twist. Highly recommended.

Blue Ruin’s director’s next movie looks pretty damn interesting as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8XSARX3DQg (Warning: red band)

I’m looking forward to that. I absolutely loved Blue Ruin, and Green Room has an interesting looking cast. I wonder if his next movie will be like… Red Floor-plan or something like that. You know… to keep the color theme going.

“What about the rest of his head?”
