Martin Wallace’s AuZtralia just shipped to backers.

Been waiting for this one for quite awhile.

done! :)

Thanks! This is great, also found Senji because of this suggestion which looks amazing as well!

Should be a great November. AuZtralia, Cerebria, Gugong, Nemesis and my copy of Brass Birmingham should arrive

Would love to read some impressions on Auztralia here.

Mine arrives Wednesday. But I’m really out of the loop. I just backed it because it was a) Martin Wallace and b) zombies and/or Lovecraft, I think? I didn’t even know what kind of game it was until a few weeks ago when someone told me it’s a train game. Wha…? I’m kind of glad I didn’t know that before I backed it. I’m not sure I’m interested in a train game.

I just played this last week and thought it was quite good. The map is less choked off in terms of rail/canal links than Brass Lancashire, but the new whiskey mechanic creates a different set of limitations. I also like the variable demand in markets mechanic, which gives each game some variety.

Post some impressions after you play it.

Nemesis is already out.

Nemesis

Mine arrived. Even the outer box it ships in is gorgeous. Will try to get it to table onHalloween.

I’ve been lax in keeping up with what’s coming out at Essen this year, and my local, annual, Essen game fest is coming up in a few days- the organizer sends a person to mule back a couple hundred new games for the event.

I just peeked at the BGG Essen Release list. It has 1000+ entries, and I ain’t got time for that nonsense. Anything I should be keeping an eye on to play if it’s there?

Haven’t played yet, but from what I’ve read there are basically 2 phases to the game. The pick up deliver train game you might expect and then when the old ones wake they attack and hopefully you’re prepared.

Oh boy yeah. I’ve mentioned a few already, but this is a great year for mid weight euros.

Blackout by Alexander Pfister my favorite designer of late (Mombasa and Great Western Trail, Isle of Skye). Hong Kong has lost power and your team must take control of the city. Not a co-op and shares a card mechanic of Mombasa. My only concern with this is it will be too similar to the later.

Gugong (aka Forbidden City) Worker placement game based on bribing officials looks like an amazing mid weight Euro.

Teotihuacan A rondel Game using Dice (not rolling) by the guy who made Tzolkin (looks like a game of the year for sure

Forum Trajanum A heavy Feld Game (not a sequel to Trajan) You construct buildings on roadways to gain points, but every turn you draw bonuses (actions) but you only keep one and you must give the other to the other player

Carpe Diem A lighter Feld Game. People say it’s great, but I wasn’t drawn in by what I saw.

Underwater Cities Valdimir Succhy (spelling) (the guy who designed Last Will and Pulsar 2849 I’m still trying to get pulsar but this is supposedly great. I want to try it but wasn’t sold on it either after a video I saw.

Between 2 Castles of Mad King Ludwig if you like between 2 cities or Castle of Mad King ludwing this is your peanut butter chocolate combo

Architects
Raiatea

Pax Transhumanity The next game in the pax series this one apparently has you build a common tableau

Passing through Petra Renegade’s first euro I believe designed by the guy who did Ascension. It’s a card game where you try and time people coming through your market.

Endeavor reprint

Smartphone Inc Looks like an interesting programming game that looks heavy but easy to play. I hate programming, so the fact that I’m even mentioning it says something.

Captains of the Gufl So this is a shrimp boat game that uses a multi purpose card mehcanic.

Fertility

Silk

Nagaraja a really cool looking quick 2 player game

It’s an Expansion year:
Nippon
Terraforming Mars
Great Western Trail
Caverna
Feast for Odin
Kemet
All have amazing expansions

And about 980 more.

Those are great, thanks so much! Off to look at least a few of them up…

The most anticipated game from Essen for me this year: reprint of 1830. Been waiting to play that classic ever since I got into 18xx. Not much else on my radar.

Who’s reprinting this? I love 1830 and have a Mayfair version. The only other 18xx I have is GMT’s excellent 1846.

I played 1856 on Friday. I enjoyed it. My undoing was mostly self caused. I’ve had trains churning around my brain all weekend.

I have 1844/54 sitting on my shelf, and I’m dying to play it. Unfortunately, it is pretty difficult to find people here to play heavy board games. That said, 18xx is without a doubt my favorite kind of tabletop game. Wish they were easier to get a hold of (and cheaper!).
