Thank you for that. I blinked twice thinking… I thought this game had been around for awhile.

Gimmie the news!
(You know you were thinking it)
My FLGS just got some Kickstarter copies of Snowdonia Master Edition, and I was considering picking on up — any thoughts on the game? Is there much theme, or is it just a dry euro?

I made the same observation whilst watching the Wimbeldon final :) I think this kind of thing is true in the top levels of all sports. It’s often about who made the fewest mistakes.
At the really high levels - like Wimbledon - it’s all about forcing your opponent to make mistakes. There’s a lot that’s easy to miss - the spin on those tennis balls is sometimes quite absurd, for instance.
It depends how interactive a board game is if the same holds true!

Wingspan won the Kennerspiel for 2019. Bleh. Though to be fair, the nominations were pretty terrible.
I played Outer Rim last night and liked it a lot. It’s sort of a Star Wars version of Firefly. Instead of goals, it’s a race to get a certain amount of Fame. The mechanics are pretty good, and there are different ways to get fame (completing jobs, delivering cargo, killing NPCs). About the only complaint I have is it’s a little hard to find crew with a specific skill you want.
We managed to break the theme pretty hard, though. I played Han and a friend played Boba. He ended up with the Falcon, and I ended up with the Slave 1 and spend the game chasing him around. It was kinda fun.
Just got a notice this afternoon from Victory Point that my Nemo’s War expansions I pledged are shipping. So that’s neat!

We played through the first 3 basic missions in Shadows of Brimstone. It was fun but I know we forgot all kinds of rules. I think it would be impossible to keep track of everything that’s going on in this game at one time.
My wife and I brought out Discworld today.
We both love this game. You are one of the city leaders and have got an associated secret goal to complete. The game itself couldn’t be much simpler to teach: Play a card. Follow the icons and text instructions on it and draw back to a hand of 5.
It starts from such a simple and orderly initial board.
But it soon erupts into unpredictable chaos as minions are added to the map, others moved or assassinated, demons, trolls and dragons come for a play with you all the while trying to work towards your goal.
My wife, being the devious person that she is managed the Lord Vetinarii victory by having a presence in 11 territories while I was still trying to assert dominance in 7 of them. Fun time.
Unfortunately, the game is now out of print because the rights to Discworld have expired. It’s been reimplemented as a game taking place in a Victorian London setting:
But that game looks darker and loses the charm of the crazy characters created by Terrry Pratchett. Might still be worth a look though.
A friend of mine loves this game. For me, it’s too fiddly. Too many chains of dice rolls. Roll to hit, roll to for damage, roll to see what blocked. I can’t keep it straight.
We just played this yesterday!
I like this game a lot. @justaguy2 introduced me and @tomchick to it earlier this year, and I liked it enough to pay up for a secondary market copy. I actually like it even though I have never read any Terry Pratchett books, which the people I played with found weird. It’s super snappy, even with four. I don’t think I’d be interested in Nancy Narking, though, even though I have no investment in the Pratchett setting, which I guess is a bit weird now that I think about it. But it’s still amazing.
Nice That the game can appeal to those who haven’t read the books. It’s very approachable and Pratchett’s characters (even Death) are immediately likeable. I’m sure the Dickensian London would be atmospheric, but I doubt it would feel as light and amusing.
Nice touch using wooden coins in keeping with the look of the game.

5 people in my gaming group Pearlbrook. The one guy who got his did so after and outside the Kickstarter. 2 of the other 4 including me haven’t even gotten shipping notices. Lame but what ya gonna do? Game is great and beautiful to boot.
Got mine (and the base game) on Friday. I’ve unpacked it but won’t get a chance to play until Tuesday at the earliest. I guess there’s a solo mode, but my feeling is that solo modes for competitive games tend to be score chases and that’s just not really that interesting to me without friends to beat.

Looks great, can’t wait to get mine! Is that the upgraded tree or the base one?
Amazon has a boardgame selection as one of the Deals of the Day today. I personally would call the Millennium Blades base game for $47 the most exciting and worthwhile of the games on the list, but there are also a couple Mad King Ludwig games from Ted Alspach, Altiplano, some One Night Ultimate Werewolf, and so on.
