I would like to see the International Court at The Hague recognize this as a war crime.
Point taken, even if you did misspell “Moby Dick”.

This is the first time I’ve seen the Chick Parabola invoked outside of Qt3.
Picked up the new Exit: Catacombs of Horror in time for the 4th!
It’s a double length, 2 parter Exit game. $25 instead of the usual $15 and comes in a big box. That seems a bit expensive to destroy and throw away after one use, but I’ll just get around it with my usual scanning and copying…
…well shit. The back of the box lists all the component and there’s a special candle it says you’ll have to light at one point. They’re really getting serious about forcing that one use rule…
Going to Dice Tower Con this week and looking to buy a game or two that I can teach to people interested in the office. My company likes team building stuff.
Any suggestions on newer games that would play in about an hour and not too hard to teach? The group is made of some new board gamer types so doesn’t have to be a a Gateway game in particular.
I plan on teaching Ticket to Ride, Codenames, Diamonds etc. I have Ethnos too but not sure how long that game takes (I gave most of my game collection away to my son when we recently moved).
How many people? The problem I found with gaming in situations like that is you don’t know how many people you’re going to have in advance and it’s better if people can come/go during the game. It leads to a solution involving mostly “party games”.

Just saying, if team building is a goal then Exit and Unlock series games are a fantastic choice.
Just note that both have a free app. Exit mostly uses it as a timer/ ambient sounds and music. Unlock does have some puzzles that require the app.
I am thinking that games of 4-5 would probably work. I can run multiple games if there is 6 or more at one time.

@Brooski Champions is in my top 3 games. It’s a must play :)
Definitely play a few base games without the expansions first. They change the play significantly.
We have bulit Legos together, jigsaw puzzles etc. : )
I will take a look at the Unlock series. Never played any before. Any particular ones that are better than others?
@arrendek
Stockpile could work! (Ha!)
Oddly, Catacombs doesn’t have an entry on the app.
Some recommendations then for accessible games that are pretty quick and fun for people who don’t necessarily know what they’re doing:
Space Base, Ciub - Dice rolling but still a good amount of strategy
Cryptid - Logic game
Kashgar - Card based engine builder
Stockpile - Stock buying fun
Maybe I’ll remember more later and post again :D
Abandoned Cabin and Murder on the Orient Express are by far the best.
The ones with 2 circle difficulties are a LOT easier and more linear. I’m a bit disappointed with how easy they are (still worth playing), but they would be great for people not great at puzzles or young kids.
I did not care for the tropical island one. Lost Castle was weak. Sinister Mansion was the closest I’ve come to disliking one. Pharoah’s Tomb was decent but be warned it contains the single worst most bullshit puzzle of the entire series (anyone who’s played it can immediately tell you which one).
edit: oops, you said Unlock. Everyone says Wizard of Oz is the best.
I was thinking about Spacebase so glad you reinforced this.
BTW, we will play in a set time so everyone can stay. Like a Friday afternoon when it is slow etc. We can even get credit at work doing things like this. The millennial generation almost expects work to do these kinds of things. Visibility is where it is at these days, so my younger team mates are always telling me. : )
They want to go to a Zip Line place. I told them all I ain’t doing that event but I will teach them boardgames and they were all excited about it! Go figure (makes me happy).
Also these (which you may already have experience with as they are pretty popular):
Sagrada
Decrypto
Azul
Codenames
Istanbul
Tsuro - Maybe my favorite “game for a workplace”
You are on a role!

I no longer say that. It is very good, but I think Sherezade surpasses it. The Dino Island one matches it.
@geewhiz my top 5 Unlock, in approximate order
Scherezade’s Last Tale
Expedition Challenger (Dino)
The Adventures of Oz
Squeaks and Sausage
Tonipails Treasure
There are also a number of free ones you can print and play.
For the I’ve of god though, do NOT get the Nautilus trap.
And yes, the Blue Original puzzle. That one was bad. And it is still not as bullshit as half of the Nautilus Trap Unlock. That one straight up made us mad. Which is a shame there are several clever puzzles there.
Not blue original. I think it was the circle or diamond puzzle.
The one where you were supposed to figure out that some tiny blob thing on the floor of an ancient pyramid tomb was an ice cream cone so you could use I-C-E to decode something else.
