I’ve been waiting for Sleeping Gods since I first heard it mentioned months ago. I’m a little disappointed it’s now 1-4 players, as it was originally touted as being for 1-2 only, which I though was a cool idea. Yeah, I know you can still play it with just 2, and more options are ostensibly a good thing, but just the idea of an ‘intimate’ campaign game for me and my gal was neat.

I’m in agreement here. El Grande is still a great design. Simple, but not too much so, great player interaction, just a little randomness.

My local Gaming Goat is closing after a couple years!! Very, very sad news. Love the people there, and buying things there. I do not want to go back to the Other Store at all.

Which store?

Rockford. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2414000592212337&id=1771602106452192&ref=page_internal&tn=-R

I played Friedmann Friese’ Black Friday last night, and man I love that game. I have a friend that brings a copy occasionally to game night, and every time he does, we all get excited and play it.

It isn’t a stock market game, not exactly, but a game about the boom and bust cycles of the stock market, and the groupthink/panic accompanying them. It can seem math-y, but if you’re concentrating on the numbers, you’re doing it wrong, as the kids say these days- it’s about timing, watching your opponents, having nerves of steel and/or pushing your luck to that perfect point (and probably missing, heh).

The rules as written are notoriously horrible, but a handy 1-page detailed summary takes all that mess away.

This Palm Trees game looks ridiculous:

Wait, does it come with a human arm?

It’s basically a manual dexterity game, so you have to provide your own arm. From the official description:

Kids would probably enjoy this a lot, and the groups that like that one game that encourages you to share spit with all your friends and family!

It’s like Twister for your fingers.

Uh, should I even ask?

I should have known the answer to my question was “no”.

To clarify, I do not play this game. It is… hugely popular though outside board game circles, I think. So physical games are enjoyed by families and certain groups, for sure.

They probably sold a few thousand just off that exchange.

I wanted to like Champions of Midgard. It’s pretty. It has vikings, but then I played it. It’s just viking stone age. That alone, should be enough, but I just found it kind of meh. I am interested to see their pseudo sequel and if it improves on the game.

DId you play with either expansion? While the Stone Age comparison is apt for the resources collection and worker placement, I thought the whole angle of recruiting warriors and battles added a lot to the experience. Not to mention in the expansions using dead warrior souls as currency for upgrades and new bad guys to fight.
