Bond 24: SPECTRE (2015)

Great name for the next Bond flick :) Just 11 months away!

Star Wars, Avengers, Bond. Who will break my heart in 2015?

Aston Martin unveiled the DB10 at the Bond event.

Limited to 10 units. All for the movie.

“In the same year that we celebrate our 50-year relationship with 007, it seems doubly fitting that today we unveiled this wonderful new sports car created especially for James Bond. I’m incredibly proud of everyone in the team at Gaydon who have brought this special project from concept to reality,” said Dr Andy Palmer, CEO of Aston Martin.

Cast:

Daniel Craig as James Bond
Christoph Waltz as Franz Oberhauser
Léa Seydoux as Madeleine Swann
Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra
Ralph Fiennes as M
Naomie Harris as Miss Moneypenny
Ben Whishaw as Q
Rory Kinnear as Bill Tanner
Andrew Scott as Denbigh
Dave Bautista as Mr. Hinx

Directed by Sam Mendes.

Nice callback to the original SPECTRE logo.

Bullshit they spent millions designing a car limited to 10 units, just for a Bond movie.

Tuned an existing platform and slapped some modified panels on it, more likely.

Which is fine, but marketing - sheesh.

Edit - It does look pretty sexy in that render though.

Kinda bummed there’s no indication Jeffrey Wright will return as Felix Leiter in SPECTRE.

What a great cast.

I am glad Naomie Harris is back, but I wonder if Moneypenny is going to be stuck behind a desk trading the occasional bon mot with Bond as he passes through to see M?

They had one on stage during the actual announcement. Looked pretty nice.

Maybe she’ll get him presentable by helping him shave before seeing M?

I really disliked the first 2 “Daniel Craig era” bond movies, but the last one was good, and the casting as mentioned already, is really strong for this new one.

I don’t see how anyone can dislike Casino Royale, which is the best in the entire franchise in my opinion. Quantum was horrible, though, no argument.

How did you not enjoy Casino? I actually liked all three, so my opinion is useless here, but I am curious what you didn’t like about Casino.

Man, how about that cast, eh? Jeez, I’m thrilled this is being made, but if it can be as good as Skyfall… wow. That would be something. Skyfall is going to be tough to beat, though. Now I want to listen to that opening theme song again. To Spotify!

Skyfall is gorgeous. It’s not as smart as Casino Royale, but it’s amazing looking and moves a little more like a blockbuster—and I mean that in a neutral way, so I get why people prefer Skyfall to Casino Royale.

I still give Quantum of Solace way more credit than it deserves, just because of the momentum it had from Casino Royale, and the excuse of the writer’s strike. None of those do a thing to improve the film, but they go a long way toward letting me enjoy it anyway.

The only thing that gives me pause is the fact that Roger Deakins is not going to be the cinematographer. His work on Skyfall was amazing. I really believe a big part of Skyfall’s success was the look of that movie. Simply gorgeous.

I just don’t know why people love Skyfall so much. Casino Royal was turning the genre on its head with its relatively modern portrayal of relationships, and with Craig’s Bond being intense rather than suave. (Quantum of Solace tried but failed, so let’s pretend it never existed.) Then it all fell back to the bad old days in Skyfall, with the disposable woman and over-the-top megalomaniac. That last stand in Skyfall was edging comically towards Commando one-man-army territory.

Obviously the issues with Kevin Mcclory around SPECTRE and thunderball have been resolved?

This captures what I’ve never quite been able to say about those two movies, and why I give the edge to Casino Royale.

Agreed.

Me too, he’s really good as Leiter.
