Does that work? Doesn’t the level cap apply? I haven’t yet looted the chest when I was over my mode’s level cap (30 normal, 50 TVHM), but I know everything else I loot obeys the cap, even though my character is advancing.

Speaking of which, I finished Torgue for the first time in TVHM, and the loot was a tad disappointing since I already had very good level-50 gear by that point. The only notable thing I picked up was a really, really nice level-50 Siren class mod, which I can’t use yet since my Siren is still level 35.

Man, the Badassasarus fight just sucks. The boss concept is amusing, but it’s extremely stupid that they put you into a wide-open arena with it. Does anyone not cheese the fight by ducking back behind the barrier to the arena, where you can shoot it but it can’t shoot you? I also noticed this time that it resists normal damage, which is unusual. Even with a powerful corrosive weapon, though, I found it completely impossible to more than scratch it before it killed me and I was forced into cheating my way through. Again.

I haven’t finished the fight because of this. I’m just going to go back and cheese it I think.

I suppose it’s possible it sucks less if you have a group, though I’m not sure that would help. I kind of expect that anyone running in to revive you would get killed too, and that AoE attack it launches for close defense has a really, really large radius, so I imagine it could wipe a party of 4 all at once if you’re at all bunched up.

EDIT: I just watched a couple of videos, wondering if there was some way to do it “legitimately.” I’d categorize the results this way:

  • People who cheese it and feel that the barrier is there to be used, that the designers probably intended you to do it that way. Personally, I find it extremely dull, but better than putting up with the instant-death of being out on the sand.

  • Teams where they don’t bother to revive each other. Rather, you opt to resurrect immediately, so while all of you die at least a couple of times, you keep the progress against the boss since there’s always someone alive. Whereas if you’re doing it solo, the Badassasarus heals back to full health if you die and revive.

  • People who have Orange gear strong enough that they can kill it quickly. The Bee Shield is popular for that.

The door behind the barrier actually stays open and allows you access to the vending machines, so maybe the intention is to strike fast and then duck out. Not much less chessy though.

I continue to appreciate the keys. I even used 2 of them a little while ago when I was feeling stuck with Zero in TVHM.

Hint - what type of weapons are Torgue weapons? Almost all the bosses in the DLC resist elemental effects, excluding slag (and some of them resist that). So what does Torgue sell - EXPLOSIVE weapons. And those work on all the bosses, none of them resist explosive weapons. So buy a Torgue weapon and go to town.

The next time I get to that boss, assuming there’s a next time, I’ll try EXPLOSION NOISE HERE.

I did get a bit tired of Zero with TVHM once I stopped getting new loot. Which, come to think of it, may have been stupid, since Hammerlock is not stuck at the level 30 cap in Normal mode, and so probably isn’t stuck at 50 with TVHM. It’s clearly meant to be played post-victory, whereas Scarlett and Torgue don’t seem to be.

I started playing my Mechromancer in TVHM, and it was night-and-day easier. The really big deal is Blood Soaked Shields. Every other character has some form of shield or health regeneration, but it’s always something like “gain 1% per second (or less) after a kill.” Gaige gets FULL SHIELDS after a skill. That’s pretty much “never die” if you’re capable of handling a fight at all - obviously if something can kill you before you can kill it, Blood Soaked Shields won’t help that. This also boosts specialized shields like amp shields and nova shields significantly, giving you a sometimes-benefit all the time.

The skill is just so powerful I can’t imagine taking a build that didn’t take that skill, which means you must take Anarchy and learn how to deal with it. Since you’re going to have that and 5/5 Blood Soaked Shields, 1/1 Discord is an obvious additional point to spend. For 37 stacks of Anarchy or less, it’s like you get all the damage benefits of your Anarchy with no accuracy penalties, for as long as the stacks last. Plus, since you don’t immediately lose all Anarchy if you reload, you can then turn it off and keep the remaining stacks. So if you feel the need to reload before combat, reload + shoot + reload gives you a full magazine at the cost of maybe 1 stack of Anarchy. Which also means you can turn on health regeneration from Cooking Up Trouble at will, though you can also get that effect if you switch to an otherwise unused weapon.

In any case, stuff that was a real struggle with Zero has been a breeze with the Mechromancer. Gaige is tougher, and Deathtrap is a much better distraction than Deception, both lasting much longer and doing damage. I’m not even sure I can argue that Zero has a higher damage output.

Welcome, here’s some more!

And thanks to others who have been posting em!

I’ll second that!

Does anyone know if there’s a possibility of Gearbox ever making the Mechromancer free (or at least free to Season Pass holders)? I have the base game on x360 and PC, and the season pass on PC - but not really willing to pay $10 for a character class.

So, I just got it, and I’m trying to beat TL2 and OMD2 at the moment. Should I hold off getting into BL2 until I can get all the DLCs at once at a good sale price?

I’m pretty damn sure that the Mech is actually free for Season Pass owners. It’s just Krieg that they’re charging for.

No it’s not, it’s $10. Their justification was that it was unfair for people who pre-ordered and bought the season pass as they weren’t getting the $10 ‘value’ for the Mechromancer (I’m not making that up, it was said in an interview with Gearbox).

The Mechromancer was only free for preorder folks.

I really, really doubt they would ever make a DLC that they originally charged for free. People would be livid. But sooner or later the DLC ought to go on sale. You wouldn’t pay $10 for a class, but what about $5? Or $2.50?

Someone else posted in this thread a nice crowd-sourced page that keeps track of the Shift codes. I wish I remembered who it was that posted it. A big thanks to that poster.

It’s a nice, easy way to keep up. And you can contribute, too.

I thought a lot of games had made pre-order DLC free towards the end of the shelf life of the game?

I don’t ever recall seeing pre-order DLC go free, but I’ve seen it get very, very cheap. New Vegas: Courier’s Stash is currently $1, and has been on sale for $0.33. Deus Ex: Explosive Mission Pack (the most expensive of the 3 pre-order items) is currently $3, but has been on sale for $0.74.

I don’t doubt for a second that the Mechromancer will hit $2.50 at some point. I’m less sure about cheaper, but it could happen. It’s a very different class, and in hindsight I’d have paid at least $2.50 for it.
