Hitting V repeatedly doesn’t do it for me. I find melee combat on the PC icky. And, no melee weapons. Gimme a sword.

Sizable patch just dropped:

I can’t believe it took this long.

Added a confirmation dialog when opening the golden chest in Sanctuary.

People were bitching about this since day 1.

Have they fixed the problems with the circle of slaughter quests sometimes not ending when all the enemies are dead?

Well, that was weird. Started up Borderlands 2 to check out the patch. Logged in with one of my 20th level characters. Everything seemed fine. Got 100 Badass points for completing one of the challenges, so I went to the Badass points menu and I suddenly had 33 Badass points to allocate! Yay!

Also, here is the warning you get when you try to open the Golden Chest.

Yeah, I logged on with my level 50 char and had 73 extra badass points and an additional 12 (!) golden keys. I’ll take a patch like that any day!

Also the golden chest dialog box is full of text, instead of the blank box in the pic above.

Ha, that’s awesome! That would make a great sanity trick in Eternal Darkness!

FYI - The Badass points resetting to 0 is still a problem. There are threads in the official forum reporting it after the patch.

I picked this up to play coop with my wife, and that was the way we played from day one. I played Zer0. As I’ve mentioned a few times in this thread, it was not particularly fun. It wasn’t horrible – we got to level 13. But it wasn’t nearly as good as BL1.

Recently I’ve started playing SP was Axton, and the differences are striking. It’s a lot fun, and I don’t think it’s just because Zer0’s special move kinda sucks and Axton’s is pretty cool.

Difficulty - BL2 was quite difficult with two players. A badass was a problem. We had to both blow our specials to drop one. Frequently one of us would be in Fight for Your Life mode. We would suffer a full “wipe” around every 20-30 minutes. Boss fights were very difficult and usually involved several wipes. The difficulty didn’t make us stop playing, but it was enough to reduce the overall fun factor. You don’t feel like a hero when you spend half the game in Fight for Your Life mode (and so, so often your partner gets the killing blow on your target and spoils your recovery). SP is much easier. I very rarely enter Fight for Your Life. Badasses are not particularly difficult. I’ve died about 4-5 times. It took about 10 hours to reach level 13 and the quest to rescue Roland in my MP game. It took 6 hours in my SP game. Some of that is knowing where to go, sure. But not most of it. Most of that is because the game is so much easier.

Ammo - Ammo was always a problem in MP. We both had to frequently switch to secondary or tertiary weapons. It was actually frustrating. In SP ammo is very rarely a problem. Ammo was very rarely a problem in BL1. Maybe it’s because enemies take so many more bullets to kill? I don’t know, but the ammo issue sucked.

Loot - in my current SP game, I laugh when I see the loading screen tooltip to group up with more players for better loot. Because in my MP game, loot was horrible. After 13 levels and ~10 hours of play we had found one purple, and 3-4 blues – combined, not each. The only “reliable” method of getting eridium was to gamble for it. It never dropped, and was very rarely found in containers. The shitty loot was so bad it really reduced the fun-factor in a game about collecting loot, because 99 times out of 100 the loot was crap. Upgrades were few and far between. By level 13, I think I had upgraded my primary weapon, a sniper, three times. Maybe twice. “Oh look, more shit loot.” It became a mantra for us, really.

In SP, this is completely reversed. Loot is more frequent, and good often enough to keep me interested. I have a legendary, a “pink” purple, a few more purples, and more blues than I can count. I don’t have to gamble for eridium, because enemies drop it (rarely), and I find it containers far more often than I did in MP.

I’ve looked at the patch notes and found no mention of them addressing any of these many issues.

So, that’s my story. I’m having fun. Seems a shame about the MP, though.

well just started up and 10 extra keys giving me 21 and 34 more badass ranks amde quite a big difference

Anyone have any advice on killing a Chubby to get the achievement? I googled it numerous times… I farmed the areas people suggested online… I can’t find a frakking chubby anywhere. random achievements suck.

advice?

I got one right at the start of the Caustic Caverns. I didn’t even know what happened until the Achievement notification popped up.

My badass points seem to be fine. Do we have any idea what triggers the wipe? In the grand scheme of things it’s not very important, but damnit I shot up a lot of baddies for those points and I want to keep them.

It doesn’t seem like Gearbox knows why it happens.

Interesting comments, thanks for that. I have not played a minute of MP, and now I’m not sure I want to! As a solo game, I like BL2 better than BL1. I liked BL1 MP well enough though. I do find the difficulty in TVHM to be pretty challenging, and sometimes frustrating, but I’ve also found that weapon choice, spec, and tactical choices can make a difference, so I’ve not been too turned off yet.

As with anything, MP depends a lot on the players and a little bit of luck. I’ve played everything from 2 players to 4 in both game modes and never had problems with it being overly difficult, a lack of ammo, or poor loot fwiw.

Now I’m a little afraid to play lest I somehow trigger a point wipe. Hopefully they get this sorted soon.

Re MP: the bulk of my BL2 experience has been playing with one or two friends and while we’ve had some ammo issues, it’s usually not a problem. I always trying to use the correct element against whatever I’m shooting so I naturally swap around a fair amount between my SMG, assault rifle and shotgun. I also found an amazing Siren mod that adds a ridiculous amount of max ammo to SMGs which helps a lot, too.

I’m with Sepiche here. Ive played the majority of time in a duo, and had a great time. I find playing solo rather frustrating, depending on what class you are playing, particularly with some of the bosses.

The key with loot (at least for me) seems to be farming the GOD-liaths and badass varkids. That said, ammo can be an issue for some classes, esp. if you’re not grabbing all the ammo boxes and the like.
