So, I just bought the season pass on PC for $10. Steam downloaded the two packs, but… when should I play them? I haven’t beaten the main quest yet, and have a level 22 Siren.

Are they post-game content? Or do they just scale to the level you are at when you start them (UGGGGGHHH BOOOOO)?

They scale, more or less; you should be 15 to start Captain Scarlet though, as that’s about the minimum level for the enemies I think. I did that one once with a character who started around 14-15, and once with a character on the TVHM second play through, in the high 30s. Either way works. I find doing Captain Scarlet’s DLC while you’re working on the main quest makes the main quest a bit easier, as you’ll get some kick-ass guns from the desert. Then again, you can replay the final battle to reloot the end boss again, too, so you can always come back.

Scaling.

Scaling content is seriously one of the worst aspects of modern RPGs. Why put any design balancing in when you can just make the content work with anyone. Such bullshit. It takes away any sense of accomplishment in my opinion.

Oh well.

So what happens if I play Scarlett at level 22, then continue the main quest? Does the main quest scale as well?

I haven’t made a technical study of it, but essentially it seems that enemies tend to be locked to a range of levels? For instance, if you go back to the early zones after you’ve leveled up a bunch, the bad guys there are going to be easy to kill–maybe not the same level as when you encountered them initially, but significantly weaker (with correspondingly weaker loot) than the people who you face on the main questline at your proper level. They’ll never be level 1 or whatever again, but they will be really easy. And you can easily run into bad guys a few levels above you, so much so that they’re nearly impossible to kill on your own, but it’s pretty hard to do that and run into enemies that are really beyond you, IIRC.

So, if you go and do Scarlett at 22, you’ll finish it say at 28-30? Hard to say. When you come back, the main quest part you had been on may have gone from Normal to Trivial, though the boss type mobs are still pretty tough. But you can do that by taking side-quests too. I found that I did that a lot–took a bunch of side quests to level up to make the some of the tougher fights easier (BUNK3R, for one).

The game does adjust somewhat, so that you never find yourself entirely out of whack, but you still get the satisfaction of being able to go back to some places and one shot most everything. Of course, the loot will suck horribly too.

Scaling works pretty well for the most part. The big thing is that missions scale based on when you accept them. So if you accept a bunch of quests and then go play in someone’s multiplayer or whatever and come back you’ll be way overpowered. So generally you don’t want to accept quests until you’re going to play them.

Where?

gmg.com - use the 30% off code on the front page to add to the 50% off season pass.

Do you generally end the campaign at the level cap? So, if I did the scarlett DLC, I may hit the ceiling before I end the campaign?

Also, at what level should I play the second DLC pack?

See it now, any way to gift another copy to a friend?
Nvm, just made a second account. Thanks!

You do not hit the level cap on the first run through, no. Cap is 50. Your first playthrough will put you at roughly 30-32.

Ah too bad gmg doesn’t work with my credit card or bank. Why do so many banks think they’re involved in gambling? I seem to recall this happening before as well when Dues Ex came out.

I don’t know. I had never bought anything there but had no problems. Now I’m just waiting for the inevitable phone call from the fraud department asking if I made three purchases for the same amount of money. It would have been a lot easier if you could send items as gifts, as you can on Steam. Still, worth a bit of effort to save 60 bucks.

I’ve always used paypal and had no problems. I stupidly gave them my CC info yesterday instead of using paypal and got a fraud alert, but I called my bank and had it resolved in 5 minutes.

Ah see I was using paypal, they work if I give them my CC info. Well that’s how my other purchase went, this time I just didn’t go through with it.

If you call your credit card and let them know, it should work. That’s what I have done.

I am late to this party but bought Borderlands 2 during the Steam sale and am up to level 27 or so playing as Axton and do I ever love this game. A lot of it has me laughing hard. I just finished the feud-instigated-by-Ellie quest and laughed at loud through the whole thing.

Several year end and New Years shift codes available now plus this site lists all currently working shift codes:

I picked up all of these except for a couple that I had already redeemed so these are all still working. Happy New Years!

Thanks for that link, missed many of those scored 4 new ones. Up to 50 banked, just wish I had more time to actually play the game.
