Yeah, I agree. Optional. Doesn’t impact my enjoyment of the game. Carry on.
I just thought it was odd that there wasn’t an announcement or anything.

Is there any, any chance that they will change the basic mechanic of multiplayer and have drops be linked to individual players (so it doesn’t become a game of pressing “E” as fast as possible)?
Because that would make a huge difference in my desire to give this thing legs by playing multiplayer.
I believe it was discussed earlier in the thread but the free for all drop style was a deliberate decision. I wouldn’t expect to see that changed.

That’s really a pity, since it is such a terrible mechanic.
I just played multiplayer with some random people. I knew there was a megachest nearby. I could: (a) stay and help them fight the monsters; or (b) run off to the megachest and loot all the good stuff before the others can get there.
Creates a real race to the bottom situation, and is so easily remedied by better mechanics.
Before anyone says it, these are random internet players. The answer is not to say, “They should play less selfishly.” Because it won’t happen, and by refusing to change the mechanic, all you do is punish those who don’t play selfishly.

I think it’s more that it just encourages playing with people you actually know. I don’t deny that it sucks in random groups, but it’s rather entertaining with friends to yell at them for stealing all the loot while you’re dying to enemies or have someone throw an upgrade your way you never saw drop that they knew you’d like.

It sucks even with people you know. This dive for loot just occurs in the midst of all the excitement. It’s not my favorite loot drop system at all. And by that i mean I hate it.
The option would certainly be nice. I prefer it the way it is, because we aren’t constantly having to show each other what dropped for the other to see it. But I having the ability to change it so people get their own drops would be a huge plus for anyone that likes to play with random folks.
All they would need to do would be to make loot chests inaccessible until the baddies are dead. I play with friends but one of them brings his brother on a regular basis and he is the worst about charging past all the baddies while we are fighting/dying (sometimes even abandoning us enough that one or two of us can’t be rezzed in time and have to pay the auto-rez fine) and running to the chests past them and cherry picking the best stuff, with no qualms. Just put a door that triggers on the last mob death (as long as the mobs are within x number of levels of you, so you don’t have to fight through the low-level stuff if you need to run through again).
That solution still wouldn’t alleviate the dirty scramble after a boss dies and the loot pinata scatters around.
Totally agree, but it would remove the incentives for people to leave the battle before the boss died.
Edit: I don’t like the good loot being taken without a discussion about who could use what, and assigning loot to individual players would be best, imo. But it’s even worse that when people are stealing your loot they aren’t even helping, and at least what I suggested would alleviate that.

You can always duel 'em for the loot…

I dont play a lot of MP, and when I do its with people I know. That said I think they should at least include the option of some kind of loot system with a threshold you could set for what is FFA. So like default is blues and up you get to choose if you want to roll for it, anything green or white is FFA.
The way it goes with us, looting just slows everything down. Someone will hover over an item and say something in chat like ‘hey this is better than what I use, anyone else want it?’ Then they wait for people to check the item out themselves or say ‘go for it’ or something like that. It slows the game down.

It breaks the pace of the game.
This happened to me too. A buddy and I were playing the game (and I had been enjoying it in SP) and quickly just got bored and switched to something else.

So I’m finally actually playing and not just collecting shift codes. How does the multiplayer handle players having different quests when they join in a random group?
