i recently saw this book in a local book store. its a spin off of lord of the rings. its hilarious, anyone seen / read it ?
Never read it, but it’s decades old. It was written by the Harvard Lampoon staff, wasn’t it?
Wow. Yep, I read that in about 6th grade, I think… Which would have been around 1976. It was really funny to a 12-year-old. :-) Haven’t read it since. Still have that copy, though!
First published in 1969, by the Harvard Lampoon.
Yeah, I have the same edition. Funny stuff if the idea that Bilbo is now Dildo and Frodo is Frito, Sam? Spam. Gandalf… Goodgulf (they kinda failed there) is funny stuff. Twas bequeathed to me by a friend’s older brother (and my first DM). This would be about… 1979 or so.
I also have a parody of Dune from that gang called, uproariously, Doon. It involves Giant Pretzels roaming the Dessert planet Aruckus. Sigh. Best thing about that one is the advert at the end for the (nonexistent) sequels:
Doon
Doon Meshugannah
Children & Pets of Doon
&
Lord God Help Us Another Sequel to Doon
I haven’t read that since high school, but I do remember one thing:
“Dribble, dribble, fake, shoot, swish!”
Oh yes! I’d forgotten about the Ballhog! Didn’t Aragorn, or whatever his pun name was, also trip on his sword all the time? Maybe I should read it again.
“Arrowroot, son of Arrowshirt”… if memory serves. It’s been awhile. :)
I just remember as the band set out from the Shire they had to traverse “hummock, hillocks, and buttocks”
I have that damned thing around here somewhere. Can’t find it now but I’ve had it since I was a wee-little D&Der. I remember that we found ‘Tim Benzedrine’ the most hilarious. All the little hobbits get stoned to the gills and start hallucinating Hunter Thompson style…
Doh! That was me. Forgot to log in.
