I’m not sure if I’d call what I expect him to do as being a hero, so much as attempting some small level of atonement, but effectively the consequences of his actions end in his death. There’s a level of satisfaction of Walt, the guy who got lost on his motivations along the way, coming to a sad conclusion richly deserved, and some realization at long last that his bullshit only goes so far, and then it punishes the very ones he loves.
- Skylar is going to die next week. Or maybe in the finale. Her time is coming, her days are marked. She should have listened when she tossed the coin at four corners. We know her fate is sealed, because Walt rips up his bacon on his fifty-first birthday. I’m going to guess that he loses his whole family next week, Rose and Jr. included. Won’t that be fucked up on the heels of losing Hank? Somehow the Nazi’s are going to be responsible. Why? Because there is a small contingent of Americans that don’t care about Walt losing his money, but do care about the death of innocent children. This is the plot point that will get them on board. Everyone must root for Hank next week. The real pleasure in watching BB is that the writers know just how to weigh each side of the scale to expertly manipulate the viewer.
So I am probably totally wrong, but why not. What are your predictions? Why?
Jesse: Damned if I know. Maybe he’ll survive - he is the one who has expressed honest remorse without being prompted by being caught (coughSkylarcough). Maybe he’ll end up in jail. Maybe he’ll die. I’m not sure I want to guess - I just hope whatever the conclusion is that I’m satisfied that it made sense.
Skylar: I tend to think that Walt sacrificing himself to save her and preserve his family is an act of contrition that works, however undeserving Skylar may be. But I suspect there will be a loud cheer if she gets offed. She may be viewed as a loose end that Evil Meth Boys can’t risk.
Saul: sleazes his way out. Spin-off rumors are too persistent to make me think otherwise.
Lydia: Ricin ends up in her tea, or she gets caught in the crossfire are my two big bets. Maybe she is the one principle that the DEA actually gets to prosecute - but I very much doubt she escapes intact.
Walt Jr: Bummer. To have to side against his father, who he loved so very much. His is the real tragedy here. Would he even accept the money assuming Walt can get it to him? I think not. One of the punishments Walt has to endure is never being able to truly tell his son how sorry he is, or even explain some his final actions that try to atone for his sins.
Marie: Helps save her sister, or rats her out? I think save. She survives.
Swastika Guys: Body count. Last thing Head Aryan sees is Heisenberg, in all his glory. Ka-Blammo!
Todd: Hesitates in killing Walt - Jesse or Walt gets him.
Hank: exonerated, but buried all the same. He is reborn Under the Dome, but channels Heisenberg and dies again almost immediately (looks at clock: in 8 hours Left Coast Time).
