I’m not sure if I’d call what I expect him to do as being a hero, so much as attempting some small level of atonement, but effectively the consequences of his actions end in his death. There’s a level of satisfaction of Walt, the guy who got lost on his motivations along the way, coming to a sad conclusion richly deserved, and some realization at long last that his bullshit only goes so far, and then it punishes the very ones he loves.

  1. Skylar is going to die next week. Or maybe in the finale. Her time is coming, her days are marked. She should have listened when she tossed the coin at four corners. We know her fate is sealed, because Walt rips up his bacon on his fifty-first birthday. I’m going to guess that he loses his whole family next week, Rose and Jr. included. Won’t that be fucked up on the heels of losing Hank? Somehow the Nazi’s are going to be responsible. Why? Because there is a small contingent of Americans that don’t care about Walt losing his money, but do care about the death of innocent children. This is the plot point that will get them on board. Everyone must root for Hank next week. The real pleasure in watching BB is that the writers know just how to weigh each side of the scale to expertly manipulate the viewer.

So I am probably totally wrong, but why not. What are your predictions? Why?

Jesse: Damned if I know. Maybe he’ll survive - he is the one who has expressed honest remorse without being prompted by being caught (coughSkylarcough). Maybe he’ll end up in jail. Maybe he’ll die. I’m not sure I want to guess - I just hope whatever the conclusion is that I’m satisfied that it made sense.

Skylar: I tend to think that Walt sacrificing himself to save her and preserve his family is an act of contrition that works, however undeserving Skylar may be. But I suspect there will be a loud cheer if she gets offed. She may be viewed as a loose end that Evil Meth Boys can’t risk.

Saul: sleazes his way out. Spin-off rumors are too persistent to make me think otherwise.

Lydia: Ricin ends up in her tea, or she gets caught in the crossfire are my two big bets. Maybe she is the one principle that the DEA actually gets to prosecute - but I very much doubt she escapes intact.

Walt Jr: Bummer. To have to side against his father, who he loved so very much. His is the real tragedy here. Would he even accept the money assuming Walt can get it to him? I think not. One of the punishments Walt has to endure is never being able to truly tell his son how sorry he is, or even explain some his final actions that try to atone for his sins.

Marie: Helps save her sister, or rats her out? I think save. She survives.

Swastika Guys: Body count. Last thing Head Aryan sees is Heisenberg, in all his glory. Ka-Blammo!

Todd: Hesitates in killing Walt - Jesse or Walt gets him.

Hank: exonerated, but buried all the same. He is reborn Under the Dome, but channels Heisenberg and dies again almost immediately (looks at clock: in 8 hours Left Coast Time).

They’re not rumors, it’s confirmed, though it’s supposed to be a prequel so he can still die in this.

Jesse is the rat that got Hank killed.

I’ve really disliked this show for the last season or two, but the emotional crescendo of last night’s episode was fantastic. Some great stuff with Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, Dean Norris, and Betsy Brandt. Especially the knife confrontation between Walt and Skyler. I was so glad they put RJ Mitte in that scene. The poor kid has been sidelined for so long it was really gratifying to see him get to participate in the drama, and to play such an emotionally pivotal role. And that phone call from Walt to Skyler while the police listened in is the sort of scene in a series that makes me glad I’ve stuck with it.

In fact, I’d be perfectly happy if the show just ended here. I don’t need to see Walt arriving with an M-60 to rescue Jessie from Lydia Quayle and the Aryan Brotherhood of Methists. I’ve got Grand Theft Auto V for that sort of thing.

Damn, rumors when I type it, and not by the time I post! Breaking News, so to speak. ;-)

Still, I think Saul sleazes his way out. Or takes his own exit plan and sets up somewhere else. Maybe sets up an account for Walt Jr.

I actually felt RJ Mitte’s acting wasn’t up to the task in those heavy emotional scenes. He’s been fine throughout the series, but that episode was demanding and he seemed stretched to the limit of his abilities to me.

God damn.

The Lesson:

Don’t fuck with Meth Biker Gangs.

Also, Walt’s whole family is getting offed, that tape will be their death.

You know what, I have always kinda had some dislike for Breaking Bad, because in the back of my mind, there never felt like there was 100% reality around what was going on. Everything thing was safe, and everything worked out. Walt’s journey felt like it was impossible and full of improbable lucky chances. Well, Vince Gilligan, you let the luck run out, and that certainly added some reality.

One of the things I liked so much about the Wire is that nobody is safe, shit gets fucked up, and things stay pretty real. Breaking Bad had the whole “How are Jesse and Walt gonna make it out of this” feel to it. While I think that Walt will be rescuing Jesse in the end, things definitely got more real.

Finally consequences.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but I’d go so far as to apply that comment to most of the cast for the entirety of the series. Including Bryan Cranston. :)

Fortunately the Emmy voters don’t agree. Heck even the baby does a good job.

My new prediction is nobody makes it out alive except for Holly and Todd. Skylar, Marie, Jesse, Walt, Walt Jr, and the Neo Nazi Uncle all die.

I’m curious if Lydia will end up helping Jesse. If I recall correctly, he’s the one that held off on the others killing her earlier this season. Possibly make a deal where he cooks for her, which gets her away from the crazy gang (and better quality) and he can get his ex to safety.

I suspect Todd will attempt to keep Jesse a secret from Lydia since he’s hoping that if he gets pure cooks (that she thinks are from him) that he’ll be able to bone her (in the most polite way possible, of course).

If Walt “saves” Jessie, Jessie will cut his heart out. Walt told Jessie he saw the girlfriend choke on her own vomit, and “could have saved her”.

Atonement for his crimes. I wouldn’t be surprised at that at all.

I think Walt will consider that a real possibility and do it anyway. Walt’s already dying of the cancer and him even getting through the nazis to rescue Jesse is already a super dangerous mission, what’s one more danger of imminent death? I suspect in the state of mind he will be at in the finale he would welcome Jesse doing him in compared to other possibilities.

Really good article.

As long as Huell comes out okay, I’m happy.

Haha! I hope he makes the spin off with Saul.

Good interview and insight with episode’s writer here:

I guess Huell is still sitting on that couch in the motel room, waiting for Hank to come back. Gonna be a while.
