This is fascinating, Britain. I guess we’re learning why not to put international treaties and alliances up for popular vote.

How long do they have to come to a resolution before hard Brexit happens automatically?

End of March. We’ve now pissed away another month thanks to May delaying the vote.

Delighted with today. Its about time Parliament reminded this government who is in charge. Its the people not them.

The only worry now is Corbyn. If he can finally commit to undoing article 50 then he can win an election handily then we can get back to growing the UK and our fellow EU members.

If the price of getting everyone to value the EU was the past two years then fine I guess. Better to have a waste of time like that than Brexit austerity.

EVEN if jeremy corbyn suddenly became a huge believer in a second referendum, or even if he pledged to remain, and made impassioned speeches about how he (suddenly) likes the EU, and even if there then was a general election…
I seriously doubt labour would win it. There is no evidence that labour would win a GE according to the polls, and it would not be a re-run of the last election (which was amazingly bad by the tories).
A new GE would be against a new Tory leader, without as much baggage as may. Do not underestimate the extent to which people who are not labour supporters, REALLY dislike the idea of a corbyn government.

I’m really hoping for article 50 to be torn up. I still think that is the most likely option (with may hanging on until the dust settles), then an internal tory leadership battle without a new GE. Gordon Brown set a recent precedent for a leadership/PM change not requiring a new GE.
The DUP will back the tories under all circumstances. They despise corbyn.

But wouldn’t this require a substantial chunk of Conservative MP’s to vote to tear up article 50, defying the Brexit vote and the Brexit voters? That sounds to me like political suicide for any Conservative MP who tries it. (Disclaimer, I’m an American who has never set foot in Britain, so what do I know.)

Anyhow, it seems to me that the future is now obvious: the UK is going to stagger, stumble, shit upon itself, and crawl over political vomit to leave the EU with no deal.

To put it bluntly, the UK is boned. I feel like there’s epic, cosmic levels of denial about this, but the reality is: the Brexit voters have shat upon the country and now everyone is going to pay. No Deal Brexit is coming.

Brexiteers and Remainers both celebrating torpedoing the deal. Life gets funnier and funnier.

I would’ve thought Remainers would support the deal. There’s no non-Brexit option on the horizon, and it seems like it would be much easier to cancel Brexit or re-join the EU from the aftermath of May’s deal (which includes a no-change transition period, right?) than from hard Brexit.

There is no cancelling Brexit from May’s deal. The “no-change” transition period doesn’t mean the UK is still a member. The only way back in is reapplying, just like it would be from a no-deal Brexit. The economic aspects of rejoining would be simpler, but not the political and legal ones.

Why isn’t the fact Russia desparetly wants Britain to leave the EU not brought up CONSTANTLY? In nearly all cases, if you’re doing what Russia wants, it’s bad if not evil.

Hey Mr. Brexiter, what do you think about the fact you’re doing the KGB’s work for them by pushing the UK to leave the EU? By doing this are you not a traitor?

Because they don’t care if they get to keep out the Poles.

I am more optimistic. I think both Tories & Labour will finally see that they cant please both groups and they simply must put it back to the people. The country is divided and you know what? Thats healthy. We have a mechanism for handling this kind of impasse. Go ask the people again.

The result then is neither May or Corbyn’s fault. They can hand on heart say “we went and negotiated to the best of our ability, this is what Brexit would look like, do you still want it? yes or no?”

Is the only get out of jail card they have.

Oh so very wonderful. You dropped in for a drive by bullshit spew. Keep up your quality. Nicely done.

Why so angry? You have my sympathies.

Yeah, I think at this point they need to hold another referendum and hope the people have more sense this time. Then NEVER hold another one if so.

I think you have representative government so that people aren’t called upon to make decisions on vague questions. It’s Parliament’s job to kill Brexit. Leave the poor people alone.

Normally I’d agree with you, but another popular vote that reverses the previous one is the only way a Remain vote is perceived as legitimate by the majority.

A Remain vote would be considered illegitimate by the UKIP-Tory rump regardless, I think. The yellow-jacket types are like Trumpists; it’s reckless and foolish to deliberately empower their voices. Both Cameron and May are guilty of criminal negligence in stirring up the know-nothing hornet’s nest for what they perceived as political gain. And both of them miscalculated about the gain, too, so they achieved nothing and lost everything.

Russia also wants Corbyn to be PM. I don’t hear you using the same argument to say that everyone who voted Labour in 2017 is evil.

To be clear, I am calling your argument absurd, I am not saying everyone who voted Labour in 2017 is evil.

You are deluding yourself if you think it’s only the yellow jacket fringe who would consider it illegitimate.

Hell, I’d probably vote remain in the 2nd ref and I’d consider the result illegitimate.
