Surprise, surprise, Soubry confirmed she will vote for the government today.
Why? People are allowed one vote only, no change of opinion?
Not that I think a new vote would be a good idea in the long term, not until conditions that allowed for the first vote to change (blaming EU for national decisions, horrible press, etc).

Because the bar for greater union is “The current MPs decide to pass it, even if they promised not to”
The bar for less union is apparently at least two general elections and two referendums, in the face of determined establishment opposition.
The asymmetry is very obvious.
Stupid ideas should have higher barriers to entry.
Gradual increases in integration and leaving the union entirely are hardly equivalent. And one referendum plus a semi competent government with a plan would have been perfectly sufficient to get this over with.

The bar for greater union is “the current MPs decided to pass it”, and the bar for lesser union is equally “the current MPs decided to pass it”.
Is Parliament sovereign or not?

Well quite. But when the MPs both skew much more pro-EU than the population and consistently lie about their intentions in general election campaigns then that’s not how it feels from the perspective of leave voters.

some Labour supporters aren’t particularly keen. If he’s still committed to brexit in a GE that will be even more.
I agree but it’s the second time it’s happened in quick succession for the Tories so I think they will be under more pressure. They will fight it though.

This just solidifies my point. Corbyn loving Russia is awful, nigh traitorous.

The problem with no-confidence is the hard-Brexit Tories want to be in charge when it’s over, so they naturally don’t want either no confidence or a general election. So I’d expect a conventional party-line outcome on this one with only a few Conservatives who are so sick of May they vote themselves out of power.
Parliament always amuses me for all its random yelling and such.
I can’t imagine any Tory MPs voting with the opposition on this.
I agree, but in some way that’s surprising, because if there is one thing we know, it’s that no one has any confidence that May has a plan to sort things out.
May has clung on so long because her opponents are too divided. Her incompetence is her strength unfortunately - her opponents dislike her less than they dislike each other.
If Labour had a less divisive leader, this vote would have a chance. Tories voting for Corbyn? Or even more unlikely, the DUP voting for Corbyn!?!? Only when Hell freezes over.
It has nothing to do with her incompetence. She’s in an impossible position and anyone with half a brain knows that getting rid of May will solve nothing. The position of PM is pure poison right now to anyone’s political career. If through some miracle she is replaced then the person replacing replacing her is either about to retire or as dumb as Trump.
They’re voting on the No Confidence motion right now so we could know results within 10 minutes or so.
I have to wonder, if the UK can’t even bring itself to agree to a deal on Brexit then what’re the chances of ever getting a deal that will be agreed on with all the EU members?
Well, the situation as they’ve framed it is impossible. They want to honor the Brexit promise of controlled immigration and freedom from EU regulation while not disrupting their economy by severing the closeness of their trade relationship. This can’t be done, because the EU will not give them a better deal than a member country has. Any solution requires abandoning that framework. Either they’re going to disappoint Brexit voters somehow (no Brexit, or Norway+) or they’re going to wreck their trade relationships with the entire world. Only the former looks like a solution to me.
Her position is everything to do with her incompetence.
She CHOSE to activate Article 50 before knowing wtf the plan was.
She CHOSE to throw away her majority with an early general election.
Nobody forced her to do these things.
And she squeaks by, 325 vs 306
