Arguably it didn’t even work well in 1919!
Except it actually takes quite a bit of planning and coordination for everyone to exit a clown car.

Yeah, we’re mostly all stuck in the damn thing, cliff edge or no.
I wonder how he really feels about Brexit. He seemed to be holding back quite a lot.
(yes, that’s fully tongue in cheek)
I wanted to stand up and applaud. Of course, I’m at work and in the US, so that could have been slightly awkward.
Particularly like the part where he talks about immigration; something I’ve also mentioned earlier in this thread. Re-orienting toward the commonwealth (as many have suggested as their “replacement” for EU), will not result in less immigration; one of the conditions that these commonwealth economies will - quite naturally - be to demand lower barriers to travel to the UK; barriers that - paradoxically - were raised when the UK joined the EU.
Doesnt pull any punches there.
Is he REALLY the first MP to have said these things? If so, GOOD LORD.

It sounds like negotiations are strained (surprise, surprise)
Current Guardian headlines:
Hopes of Brexit progress fade as Labour says May has failed to compromise
France, Spain and Belgium ‘ready for no-deal Brexit next week’
Of course both may be evidence of negotiation positions more than reality, but given past performance, I’m inclined to go with reality. In which case May and her party will be responsible for the single worst event in British history since Hastings. And Hastings wasn’t really Harold’s fault, not like Brexit is May’s. And meanwhile Corbyn and Labour are fiddling while May sets fire to everything.
Well…Hastings really was Harold’s fault.
He had used a feigned retreat before, he knew the manoeuvre, but he couldn’t exercise enough discipline on the Fyrd so they got carried away.
To be fair, the first time William’s troops retreated it was for real.
He was just clever enough to make the next 2 or 3 times fake, and that was enough to dislodge the Saxons off the hill.
Harold also didn’t make provisions for losing. He had enough brothers etc to carry on the fight, but there was apparently no plan B.
Anyway, this is all going from memory.
But, the comparison is still somewhat apt, because afaik the EU isn’t actively trying to fuck us over, unlike William.

Tell us the truth, you were never really in the Canaries were you.
