So is Theresa May Charlie Brown and Parliament Lucy, or is it the other way around? Or does it even matter at this point?

Remember, you are only allowed to vote on the Brexit referendum one time. It wouldn’t be right to go back to the people now that there is more information.

But May can keep voting on the same Brexit deal until she gets the result she wants.

I imagine Theresa May as some evil teacher, Bercow is Lucy, and Charlie Brown is Parliament.

The teacher is yelling at Lucy … “Make him kick the ball!” Lucy is crying… “No, no, why? I just have to pull it away again, I don’t want to! No one wants this!”

“Do it… again.”

Hey all, I have a bit of a weird request. :)

My company is going to be working through the summer with a UK-based science foundation (Nesta) on the subject of UK politics – Brexit stuff, but also concerns that seem to underlie Brexit, too. We’ve been working with them to craft some survey questions that should be fairly divisive, in that they’ll bring different responses from folks depending on their political beliefs and views. We’re currently piloting the survey, seeking feedback from individuals who are plugged into these issues the way many of you in this thread seem to be.

Part of the survey is also arranged around asking whether the phrasing of any of the questions is unclear. We’re also interested to see if there are any questions that should be asked but we missed.

The main requirement is that you are a UK resident or recent resident/ex-pat.

The only compensation I can offer for anyone’s time (it shouldn’t take more than 15-20 minutes) right now are some pc game codes I’ve been collecting over the past year from Humble and other bundles.

I have:

Kerbal Space Program
Mafia III

Sudden Strike 4
Escapists 2
Dead Rising 4
Quantum Break
The Long Dark
Warhammer 40k Dawn Of War III
Wandersong
Sniper Elite 3
Tomb Raider (reboot)

Available to anyone who is currently living in the UK, or is/was a citizen there and has a strong interest in the political climate and issues currently affecting the country…and is willing to take our survey.

Hit me with a PM if you’re interested. For NESTA, they get some very interesting political science research down the line. For us, we get some interesting research on combining polls/vote systems with human-powered AI.

I should mention: the survey’s completely anonymous, and we’re looking for folks all over the political spectrum from the UK to participate.

If I were a Brit I’d do this for free Trig.

Why would you pay for trigonometry?

I mean, I can understand paying for differential equations or even maybe calculus, but…

May is finally on her way out. Have we ever had such an ineffective Prime Minister?

Who will be the new Prime Minister?
Why the hell are we having a new Meaningless vote?
Answers on a postcard.

… and cross party talks break down (to the surprise of no-one).

“The government’s growing weakness and instability means there cannot be confidence in its ability to deliver.”

Boris Johnson. Very briefly as I don’t think he can survive a no confidence. But I might be wrong, the waverers may be more scared of Corbyn than Johnson.

To give parliament a chance to decide the WA is not as bad as Boris Johnson (Spoilers: they won’t)

Nah.

Nigel Farage.

Actually, put both of them in Parliament.

Plus a few more of our enlightened leaders.

My friend Guy Fawkes is coming over for dinner soon. Could be a good party…

Seriously, WTF is going on with the Tories?
I think they’ve all been taken over by pod-people.

No one in that picture looks happy.

Some stats around the reality of what Brexit is.

Why has no one in labour rolled Jeremy Corbyn yet? Surely he is unelectable?

Who would take his place?

I suspect that’s why.

That’s the sort of predicament one could only get in to if one’s country were a clown car of the highest - oh, wait - never mind.

Because there’s a large, self-hating communist wing of the party that was so disgusted with the admittedly dreadful crypto-conservative leaders the party had for over a decade before Corbyn that they will support Corbyn to the bitter end regardless of how stupid, sullen, and resentful he may be, and regardless of how bad his policies are for the country.

The membership is captured by what we mockingly call a cult. It certainly is more of a religious than political movement. The CLPs (local party structures) have in many places been entirely taken over by newcomers to Labour from what used to be Militant, Socialist Workers Party, Communist Party of Britain (and its many variants) or by an influx of cranks and oddballs, old and young those who regard Corbyn as saintly and infallible, and no, im not exaggerating. They worship and adore him. This influx of newcomers now controls all power and positions from local to regional to executive*.

The only thing thats put some cracks in the wall of the temple is their approach to Brexit. I’ve seen some pretty heavy duty Labour diehards who have stated they will be voting for LD or Green in the EU elections such is their despair over Labours position.

It is also entirely fair to say their isnt a decent challenger, plenty I would vote for, but not plenty everyone would vote for, and not one that can win over membership where the deciding votes sit with the hard left.

*Example: our new Director Of Compliance is Laura Murray. Laura is 30, formerly an admin worker, has no experience in Compliance other than the furor and lawsuits caused when she was sent by Leaders Office where she worked on secondment to Compliance, where she interfered with and disrupted dozens and dozens of high profile cases against pro-Corbyn members. She was appointed Director with no transparency, oversight or competition.

Laura is the daughter of Andrew Murray, one of Corbyn’s oldest associates and now a senior advisor holding considerable power and influence. Murray was Communist Party of Britain executive until 2016. He is a Stalinist, a direct employee of Putins Foreign Ministry, he’s banned from Ukraine for publishing Putinist pro-rebel propaganda, and an apologist and defender of the DPRK. He, like many in the Communist/Hard Left figureheads is a product of the aristocracy.

Murray was born in 1958 to Peter Drummond-Murray of Mastrick, a stockbroker and banker who was Slains Pursuivant from 1981 to 2009, and Hon. Barbara Mary Hope, daughter of former Conservative MP Arthur Hope, 2nd Baron Rankeillour who was governor of the Madras Presidency of British India from 1940 to 1946. His wife and Lauras mum, Susan Michie remains a CPB leader, has equally as blue blood, granddaughter of Sir Henry McLaren, 2nd Baron Aberconway.

Hilariously, at a meeting where she declared that the CPB will support and vote for Corbyn, she opened with “We, the working class”

Laura Murray is just one of the offspring of Corbyn, McDonnell, Murray and other senior Labour figures who now have executive or VP level positions within the HQ hierarchy. Loads of nepotism in the Blairite Labour, in the Tories (of course), LibDems you name it, the Westminster bubble encapsulates all parties, despite those declaring they arent part of the system.

Anyway, that’s my anecdote of the sordid machinations of the far left Establishment in the UK, who despite lots of talk about working classes, the people, and equality and are actually aristocrats engaged in nepotism and corruption, just like the rest of their peers in Westminster.

Also of note, Murray, Seumas Milne (the actual guy in charge, and product of a privileged upper class himself) and a few others in the hierarchy were behind Straight Left in the 60s. Straight Left and others famously split from the Communist Party of Great Britain when the CPGB condemed the invasion of Hungary by the Soviet Union and over the decades are the ones who always apologise for Stalin, or defend totalitarianism and are the origin of the phrase “tankies”

Some of these new defenders of the Soviet Union follow the ideology of Stalin known as Marxism-Leninism, and is reflected in the split groups who have “ML” in their name, like the CPGB-ML, another faction in Labour now, but if you ever see the phrase Marxist-Leninist then you now know this means they are Stalinists.

Fab survey post on Reddit, showing just how dire support for Labour in the EU elections is. Only a minority are voting for Labour!
