I’m an American, and we most certainly have a racism problem so PLEASE don’t take this as some kind of holier-than-thou argument, but if this poll is accurate then the number of racists over there isn’t what I’d call small. Some may simply not recognize themselves as such.

I suspect the longer term solution to the rise of the far right will soon move from internet arguments on an unlevel field littered with deep fakes, and AI propaganda to violence, both here and the US. It took bombs and bullets in 1939 to beat these bastards and its going to require something similar if this is allowed to continue.

May was polling above Corbyn after she resigned ffs. If there’s one thing that might push in a far right govt it’s Corbyn who is about as popular as big slippery dog turd on your doorstep, and whose place as Chairman For Life in Labour is guaranteed by his cult.
About all we can really hope for is the Tory membership to just hurry up and fucking die of old age already (true tho, average age=75) and the remainder voting in cokehead Gove or Jeremy Cunt.
Javid I can relate to as his background mirrors mine. 2nd gen immigrant, poor 1st gen Muslim parents, City career, apostate/secularist etc. His politics are shit of course but I’d still be interested to see a British Pakistani of Muslim heritage as PM just for the RAGE it would cause. Not a chance the old Tory racists would vote him in though. There was even some oddity about him being snubbed at Trump’s state banquet, there were far lower ranking white ministers than the Home Secretary attending. I couldn’t figure out if it was just Trump’s usual game of refusing to be in the same room as brown man or if his snub came from no10 or the Palace.

Some of Johnsons remarks predate Brexit and any need to pander to a base. Racism and white supremacy flows in his veins, like many of his peers. Its inherent and a cultural artifact amongst the upper classes.
Look at the behind the scenes politicking and backstabbing against Meghan Markle. They hate her. Not openly because it’s never done like that in Britain, but no doubt many in the establishment are planning Harry’s divorce.
Well, he also says other things.
He’s said in private, to ambassadors (if you believe such rumours) that he’s actually in favour of free movement of labour, for instance. Despite running a Brexit campaign founded on the opposite.
So it’s hard to know what he believes. But he’s stirring this stuff, which is all I need to know.

It was a quite common racial slur in the suburban Maryland / Northern Virginia of my high school days.

In the 80s, my school had a thing where everyone called each other insulting nicknames. As a Malaysian no one really had any actual Malay based slurs for me so I was called the following:
Paki, nigger, wog, chinkie, coon, gook, spearchucker, jungle bunny, abo, nip, dago, wop, darkie, jiggerboo, fuzzy, golliwog, monkey, ape, curry muncher, spic, bongo, sambo and just about every variation thereof.
The only guy who had more nicknames than me was a guy with crossed eyes who raped someone and was discovered with huge skid marks in his pants at a swimming party and most of his nicknames were rapist, shit or laundry related.

I remember when someone opened my word processing doc in computer studies, (on our BBC model b network) changed most of the text to Paki/nigger etc and the teacher just laughed when I showed him

I don’t know why people go out of their way to hate on other people. Never really made sense to me.
Easier to do that than to look inward at one’s own failures and mistakes.
