Can’t you guys just fast forward to BoJo being PM, or more time must be wasted pretending there’s a chance of anything else=

He’s going to be “elected” PM by the Tories, but that doesn’t mean that the rest of us have to like it. He’s homogeneously unqualified to resolve Brexit, and a national joke. The UK is an absolute mess.

Oh, I’m aware the country trying to flee the undemocratic EU is going to elect a PM by a… shall we say less than ideal process, I’m just complaining about taking all this time to reach what appears to be the obvious answer.

A friend of mine who voted leave, discussed this in easing tonight, and said he couldn’t understand why the politicians were fucking about over a “simple change of leadership.”

Some context: we’re both military, we’ve both done military operations in hotspots.

A change of leadership for us means a new lieutenant, captain major or Colonel x no big dealz and usually well coordinated (as in if you change the Major, you keep the Company Sergeant Major so th disruption downstream is reduced.

I do think most brexiteers dont think brexit will be a big issue, or think the pain is worth it.

I dont think any of them are wilfully thinking about how they can fuck the country over.

And they feel arguments and warnings about the breakup of the Unuon, the contraction of the economy are down to “project fear.”

Now some people are being wilfully close minded and shouting down the opposition as project fear, but imho, over egging the potential negatives makes you look bad when the actual result is less bad than what you predicted, even if said result is still bad and was very avoidable.

I never thought I’d be agreeing here with @draxen

Bring on another election.

in which I’d predict the Lib Dems do well as they are the only ones afaik laying out a very clear anti Brexit party line.

I’d vote for them. Amd I’ve only voted twice and I am about as disillusioned and angry as they come.

My very own brother was peddling some line about the undemocratic EU, in our family whatsapp group, the other day.

Cue pointing.out we’ve just had EU elections.

Cue me asking him to name his local councillor, mayor and MP without googling it.

Ditto his member of the EU parliament.

Cue me explaining that the EU system is very similar to our (UK) system.

Cue me asking him if he voted for Gordon Brown or Teresa May.

Cue me explaining that no, not every Pole who comes to the UK is a benefits cheat.

Cue a long and horrible argument which was well, long and horrible.

I’m so glad I don’t have these sorts of ideological differences with my immediate family. No fireworks at Thanksgiving!

One thing to keep in mind about the EU being “undemocratic” is that it’s also one of the very few democratic institutions in the world that is in near-constant development to improve itself. Few “democratic” countries have anything resembling perfect systems, but entrenched interests ensure that any changes made are small or benefit those who are already in power. The EU, on the other hand, knows that its long-term survival depends on its democratic credibility and ability to balance national self-interest with international cooperation, and has seen multiple major reforms over the past 2-3 decades to facilitate that.

That’s good. May I borrow it for a discussiom that sometimes come up on one of the discord channels I frequent?

Some more stats to verify what we already know

They have form:
https://www.historytoday.com/archive/two-sides-same-party

and a long, long history of mistreatment of women continues by our future PM, the shit.

That point where theres very little difference between the Brexit thread and the Neo Nazi thread.

Oh FFS. Some people are too stupid to live. It’s a wonder they can manage to dress themselves in the morning.

He probably has a child slave do that for him.

That’s a bold choice Cotton…

This is not a Trump thread. :)

In 2016 he said beating “dumb” seal cubs over the head was “humane” and that they deserved to die because they were “guilty” of eating too many fish.

This guy is comedy gold. It’s gold, Jerry!

Brexit Party sounds a lot like Australia’s One Nation party, the sad sacks who weren’t wanted anywhere else, and a magnet for racists, neo-Nazis and other stupid fuckwits. At least, the ones too extreme for the other parties.

Hmmm…

I read your linked article.

First of, Daily Mirror? Really?

Second of all, the article reports that

Theresa May’s chief of staff slammed Helmer, a former Tory and Ukip MEP, for the tweet suggesting he understands prejudice against black people

which is hardly the same as

racism is the fault of black people.

I’m not defending the guy, because he seems to be, well…from the last century, to put it mildly, but the actual tweet in question states this:

That reads to me as complaining about David Lammy.

To get from that to

racism is the fault of black people

seems like overreaching at best, and more like purposeful attributing.

Now, for better context I’d like to know what David Lammy was going on about.
