Of course, but now, in even only a small bit of government, “equal” is doubleplusungood. Why? Is there any other reason other than to piss in our faces?
and the Imperial thing is just nonsense. Anyone under 55 is going to have to convert anything to do with science or industry. Its not as if there’s anything important regarding regulation going on. Again, why? What kind of dinosaur votes for this? Alzheimers is terrible but its sufferers shouldn’t be driving government policy.
Considerably lower than May’s bounce when she became leader.
Papers are full of ‘we are doing no deal, and we really really mean it’. Government position now officially no deal.
People are going to die.
I expect we’ll get lots more smiley face comments in this thread as the bodycount goes up.
‘Highest Tory score since…April.”
That is some brag.
Yes, the unsuppressed glee at the prospect of looming misery really is something.
So basically, in the space of 3 years,Putin has taken down two of the world’s most powerful Western democracies. I realize there are other factors at playin the trend towards authoritarian right wing politics but weren’t the Russians heavily involved in manipulating pro-Brexit sentiments that led to the current mess?
Well, the most powerful and a has been. I would rate Germany over England as a powerful democracy.
Would be very convenient to be able to blame those nefarious Ruskies for our own screw ups, but they are merely amplifying what’s already there. You cannot seriously give greater importance to Putin‘s meddling than to decades of anti EU propaganda. He is happily supporting most far right movements in Europe, but that won’t exculpate us when they gain power.

Once again you are reduced to obsessing over trivia. The question was whether “racist nation” was arguably valid when describing England, using both Nazi Germany and South Africa as analogies. And now you want to complain that only one of latter can be described that way? Do you work for Jacob Rees-Mogg by any chance?
As usual you’re irrelevant. And as usual you’re wrong. Here is the New York Times describing South Africa as a “racist nation”. And implying that there are more.
You know draxen - with Boris’s actions pushing more dog whistle, racist, and xenophobic stuff, maybe you shouldn’t be doing a public happy dance for this guy and his party platform. Kinda makes you look like you’re on board with all the atrocious things he stands for. As in “ends justify the means”, which makes you look like a pretty despicable person.
I know you’re not, but man. Sinking your countries ethics and morals for God knows how long just to leave the EU? That’s some pretty horrible optics.

I don’t think Boris is racist or supports racist views in any way shape or form and so I have no qualms about supporting him. His cabinet is the most ethnically diverse the UK has ever had. He doesn’t stand for any atrocious things other than being a politician.
I’m happy because Boris is facilitating Brexit and I wish to see the referendum result upheld. Along with ya’know half the population of the country.
There is no person in heaven or on earth who refers to black people as having ‘watermelon smiles’ or as ‘flag-waving piccaninnies’ who is not a racist, and it takes a particular determination to imagine that there is.

Read the original article where that line was written. It’s a quote that’s been taken out of context. Such kinds of accusations are merely a stick with which to beat the opposition and with Brexit we’re at peak political warfare.
Obviously, it’s impossible to know Boris’s private views but he’s written/said nothing in public that I’ve seen to make me believe he holds racist views.
Come on man. You must think we were all born yesterday. If you bring in an Indian person who supports policies that hurt minorities and xenophobic individuals, you don’t get brownie points for having a diverse cabinet. The people he brought in will support his regressive agenda. This is not to protect minorities, lower xenophobia, nor decrease hate towards disadvantaged communities. In fact I feel kind of perturbed you think I’m that dumb to not see through these appointments. Especially because you literally just spouted the same bullshit Trumpies do. Trump has Ben Carson as director of HUD. He can’t be racist! He retweets Diamond and Silk, two black women who worship him - he can’t be racist! Nikki Haley is half Indian - he likes foreigners! Black woman Omorasa was in his cabinet - he can’t be racist! Alexander Acosta is Hispanic. He loves Latin American people!
He’s smart. Having a “diverse” cast he brought in that fully supports his agenda gives him an excuse to say “It’s OK cause…”
Did he actually bring in anyone who has vocally fought hard against xenophobia, racism, or fought for the plight of the poor and disadvantaged?
I did. Unless you think it came from a novel and that Johnson is secretly Mark Twain, you’re out of your mind. I guess even then you’re out of your mind.

We’re just going to have to agree to disagree.
Did he actually bring in anyone who has vocally fought hard against xenophobia, racism, or fought for the plight of the poor and disadvantaged? Or did he just bring in people he’s sure will support his agenda?

I don’t see why members of cabinet would require those types of credentials - although obviously it would be good if they did support such causes.
It looks like he’s brought people in that supports his agenda. I would do exactly the same in his position. Wouldn’t you?
