But, hmmm…didn’t 2 courts say it was lawful, and noe one says it isn’t… :S

They should take a poll and see how many courts decide it was lawful/unlawful.
Prediction: 52% / 48% :)

Apparently, all 3 could be right:

When you think the UK political system couldn’t be messier…

So this goes to the Supreme Court that now needs to decide whether an action that is unlawful in one territory and lawful in other 2 but affects all territories is unlawful or not? Can somebody explain this mess a little better?

You can get your racist buddies and the coward silent Brexiters on here to report my posts, but I’ll say it again.

We beat you fascist fucks in 1945 and we will beat you again.

And thats after Gove said the public would not allow Brexit to happen if the reports were released.

And these fascist, Nazi fucks have shut down parliament to remove scrutiny and governance oversight and are rdfusing to obey rule of law.

The Rise of the Nazis series on BBC atm documented this in the 30s Germany. The erosion of rule of law was identical.

He even lied to Lizzie II. The first PM is British history to knowingly lie to the sovereign. I wish they could still hang these fuckers. I would weep tears of joy to see Johnsons corpse evacuate his bowels all over the scaffolding.

*hugs the Brexit thread*

Thanks for letting us hold your beer, UK!

Even though I’m a strident Leave supporter and I hope they win the upcoming election. Most of all I hope somebody wins a majority. The worst thing that could happen is another hung parliament and we go around in circles again for a few more years. Our entire political establishment is paralyzed. I’d rather Remain won than we continue with this impasse. We need an election and we need a winner, regardless of who it is.

Guess I really need to stop thinking of the UK as a country pretending to be a group of countries, looks like it’s closer to the opposite.

How can something be constitutional in England but unconstitutional in Scotland when it’s supposed to be a single United Kingdom? Shouldn’t that kind of thing be common to the whole UK?

My takeaway from all this is that you really want a written, clear constitution that rules over all the country.

You know, like what almost every other developed country has.

There was a story on NPR (seems like I get all my news there on the daily commute, ha!) that interviewed various leaders of Ireland. They are seriously concerned about a resurgence of violence between Northern Ireland (UK) and Ireland. Like, lamenting that it should never happen again, but might.

This crash out thing sounds terrible. I expected some economic downturn, but violence because of it? I had no idea.

Yeah, buried in this thread is a bunch of talk about the Good Friday Agreement, and how that is why violence declined. And how a hard Brexit with border walls would violate, and invalidate, said agreement and lead to a return of The Troubles.

I missed that, will have to go check it out. Edit: Holy cow this thread is 6000 posts long!

That’s the perfect TLDR about Brexit. Oh, how hard can it be, Imma check it out, holy cow it’s 6000 posts!

And this is the view of the most powerful man in Downing Street right now

The fascists don’t care, they are prepared to let as many Irish die as it needs for them to cleanse the UK of non-whites.

Plus I think CraigM is the first person in this thread to refer to it as the Good Friday Agreement. I think this thread normally refers to it as GFA and you’re supposed to google what it means.

Here, a decent high level primer on the factors at play

It doesn’t go into specifics regarding the agreement or trade deals, and presupposes you understand the state of Irish violence in the Troubles prior to the GFA, but this gives you a taste.

I believe @Rod_Humble also posted in this thread some decent explanations of how things would work WRT Northern Ireland, and how various options would, or would not, meet certain obligations. If you just want to filter to his posts.

I think I’ve googled more reading this thread than any other. UK politics are friggin complicated man!

Same here. And they involve a LOT of acronyms. Apparently the Brits really love acronyms.

And what about the Black Rod?
