There are things beyond Marmite in the realm of salty, strong flavoured spreads for toast.

I also have scrambled eggs on toast+gentlemens relish, a dish called Scotch Woodcock that is neither Scottish nor contains woodcock and a savoury to be eaten for dessert. Like Welsh Rabbit. Which isnt Welsh nor has rabbit of course.

Come on @scottagibson, surely Scotch Woodcock is anything but boring?

Gentleman’s Relish sounds so dirty.

Not boring. Also too Welsh Rarebit!

Recent Labour events are interesting; lots of people positioning for a post-Corbyn world. What do people think about the theory he’s going to announce his resignation soon?

It certainly seems to be a possibility

Leaders Office is a right mess.

Edit - Guardian reports on it:

Corbyn’s oldest, most important and closest advisors are about as positive about his leadership as well, me.

Marxist-Leninist/Trotskyist doctrine around entryism involves joining an organisation, block voting to elect key people and then employing or installing their own and then purge of the previous faction. The non-doctrine bit that happens every time is because fighting is all they know how to do, once they have control they then split into factions and fight over the central committee functions and you end up with two new parties. Basically, all that’s left in Leaders Office now are the revolutionary Marxists, Maoists, Communists and Marxist-Leninist comrades of Corbyns youth and decades on the backbench, who have all been in dozens of different hard left parties and groups, and their children, who are all employed as advisors and directors. As mentioned before Murray was on the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Great Britain until the day before he joined Labour 3 years ago. This isnt about what these people did in the 60s.

and are they professional and competent enough to run an opposition party after decades of running parties with memberships < 1000 and a culture of infighting and splitting?

Ask Andrew Fisher.

Edit, and on the Johnson front. He’s utterly corrupt. That story of him fucking some bint and using public funds to fuck her around the world involves graft, corruption, misappropriation of funds and (as a result) money laundering. Even the Times has to note it.

Right now the LibDems position of being Mostly Harmless and revoking Brexit is pretty damn good.

The Revolutionary Aristocrats are also in todays Times.

Jon Lansman, creator of Momentum and instigator of the Watson Purge is himself a millionaire property developer and landlord. Its odd how some of these revolutionary “destroy Capitalism” types only want to destroy it after they have gained fabulous wealth and power eh.

Oh and this is still ongoing of course. HOPE not hate are the first and foremost anti-racist organisation in the UK and are directly responsible for taking down considerable numbers of far right/neonazi groups and individuals. They are not factional or politically affiliated.

and also from the HOPE not hate feed, a hint of what institutionalised discrimination looks like.

We all know what would happen if the Tories organised their anti-Islamophobia debate during Friday prayer times.

Oh, Labour’s back to being a Leave party again. Sigh. So much for a “neutral position”

Labour conference: Corbyn says UK could be better off outside EU if right deal available - live news

Appeasement doesnt work. Why are they even trying to appease Brexits racists if they are actually the “lifelong anti-racists” they claim to be?

With the party conferences occurring I’ve found my Brexit glockenspiel has been increasingly useful :)

I mean, you can’t make this shit up.

Yes, @draxen, we know you think the coming misery and death is terribly funny.

I certainly don’t make any shit up. Here’s a pic of Shadow Chancellor from earlier this year and absolutely no connections at all to revolutionary socialism.

John-McDonnell-was-pictured-at-yesterday-s-May-Day-rally-1121711

No one in Labour has any connection at all to the hard left. Honest guv.

Unless the argument is that democratic socialism is based on the teachings of Stalin and Mao?

These mentions of hard left connections, structures and figures isnt unique to my posts on QT3 you know.

https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/fresh-politburo-plan-to-allow-labours-nec-to-seize-control-if-jeremy-corbyn-suddenly-quits_uk_5d80a692e4b03b5fc8894b19

Critics claim that the plan could even apply to Labour in government as well as opposition, with one saying the NEC “Politburo” would effectively run the country if Corbyn were forced to step aside due to illness or any other reason.

There are some severely problematic people on the NEC, far in excess of even those mentioned to date. Pete Wilsman? Running the country if Corbyn is ill? Are they fucking serious? These people are the left version of Qanon.

Corbyn stepping down at the first opportunity; preferably before the (presumably) coming election would seem to be the responsible move - if he thinks that he’s a drag on the Labour vote (which seems likely, with those approval numbers), then making space for someone who could hopefully win the election is a good idea. If he really is entertaining that idea, it shows that he puts country and party ahead of himself.

The problem with doing this, of course, is that there doesn’t seem to be an obvious successor - and a big intra-party fight to decide who wins is not the way forward. Moves such as the one against Watson weakens Labour - having this sort of thing going on pre-election would be a disaster.

Corbyn right now strikes me as someone who wants to do what he thinks is best for the country (which to him means putting it to another vote - not an unreasonable position). He might not have everyone in Labour onboard with the path to making that possible, though. Especially not as achieving it might require tactical voting.

Corbyn the man of reason, turns to his closest friend and advisor, CPGB committee member, Deep Stater, and Putin Propaganist Andrew Murray or Maoist Milne and asks to formulate a plan that is best for country and party?

Perhaps they can base it on their lifelong careers as anti-Imperialists who have actively sought revolution in the UK and a complete overthrow of government and democracy, and have spent a lifetime working with totalitarian and authoritarian states and dictatorships.

Corbyn is as thick as a plank of wood, as his mediocre, chaotic and disaster ridden backbench career where he wasnt trusted with a sniff of power shows. His comrades though, Milne, Murray and co might be the worst people in left Westminster but they are smart as a fucking button, no doubt. Whatever Labour does isnt coming from Corbyn. Its coming from Leaders Office.

Looks like No Deal and Yellowhammer will enable some Reichstag Fire type laws and the military taking over civilian posts.

I’m sure we can trust hard right ultranationalists with unlimited power, no oversight and a military government. Nothing bad can happen at all as history clearly shows.

What labour needs to be is a worthless centrist party where they rubber stamp every austerity measure nown to man.

Aside from brexitcast are there any other sane brexit related podcasts around?

I quite like Remainiacs (you can probably guess their bias from the name).

This is what happens when you have policies decided by the tankies and diehards who attend conferences.

Yes, that’s making all private schooling illegal. Because only posh white English people are educated privately right? Eat the rich and all that.

Cost of reintegrating 650,000 private pupils = £3.5 billion
Loss of tax revenue = £4.1 billion
Loss of foreign income is unknown.

As with the other nationalisation plans they will seize property, assets and entities without compensation.

And all if this in a post Brexit world where international investment and foreign capital is fleeing the UK and we are desperate for work and revenue.

And this is the cheaper of their nationalisation targets.

I recognse the gap between conference motion and actual policies but moves to democratise policy making will lead to things like this. Brexit has clearly shown the electorate don’t understand cause and effect.
