I’m wondering if he intended the bill to fail, so he can go to the streets and say “parliament made me do it” or some variation therein.
3 days to read and debate a document like this, for something this important?
What a joke.

Boris has somehow managed to cobble together a fragile coalition in Parliament that supports his deal. The risk is that the longer the delay the more likely the coalition falls apart. A fast-track timetable for the bill would have also allowed him to meet his 31st Oct pledge to “get Brexit done”. In losing the vote he can claim Parliament is delaying Brexit which helps his election campaign.
Speculation…
I don’t think Boris’s fragile coalition is strong enough to get the deal through. I think the Tories would vastly prefer an election at this point rather than continuing with the bill.
It now depends on what the EU do.
Short 2 week “technical” extension - that might be short enough that the coalition holds to pass the deal
Long 3 month extension - that’s long enough for a general election and the opposition will have difficulty refusing. The longer they refuse the more it will hurt them in the polls.
The Brexit saga continues!

And it sounds like the EU will choose to go long. Makes sense.
Incoming General Election?
I guess it’s possible the opposition refuse to hold one and cling on for dear life. I don’t see how they can sell it to the electorate though.
I like this one:
Brexit is what happens when a political system goes senile.
Remember the good old days when we had an opposition party? and the choice against the Tories was more popular than anal warts?
If a GE is called Labour and opposition politics in the UK is fucked. Tory majority will be huge, millions will be forced into poverty and will die. That’s Corbyn’s legacy, a big fucking pile of dead working class people.
Parliament has to approve a general election.
yeah but Labour are like “Polls are controlled by Tories/The Global Elite dont believe media lies, in fact everyone loves Blessed Jeremy PBUH and we need an election we will smash it”

It’s also difficult to argue against an election.
“We don’t want an election because…”
Im guessing theres a vague chance of a Coalition LD/Lab/SNP govt if Johnson keeps fucking up but really the best solution involves kegs of gunpowder and disaffected English Catholics.

If there is an election… and I say this as a strident Leave supporter. I hope somebody wins a majority even if it’s a Remain party. More paralysis is worse than Remaining in my opinion (and the electorate will have given a mandate for Remain at that point). If it’s another hung parliament… oh man.
I don’t see a way that it could be anything BUT a hung parliament. The populace is too fragmented.
From the same poll:
It seems that carrying through with Brexit will carry its own political dangers.

Once the extension is safely in place, I’m sure Labour will vote for an election.
The polling looks terrible for Labour, no two ways about it. But it’s worth recalling the last election campaign, where the polling gap was similarly bad at the start. Some combination of Theresa May’s catastrophically bad manifesto & campaign (mainly this, I think), the law requiring broadcast media to be neutral during an election, and Corbyn being an actually pretty good campaigner with a decent set of policy proposals, led to a sharp decrease in the gap. Not enough to win of course, but remember May only called the election because a Tory landslide looked like a certainty:
That was before Corbyn and co scared off all the Remainers. The LDs will no doubt do well, but FPTP dooms them.

The polls + fptp make it look like a wipeout, but the thing about four party elections with fptp is that it wouldn’t take much until a critical threshold is reached and the outcome changes dramatically. More support for the brexit party, or a big chunk of lib dems holding their noses and voting strategically on election day could mean everything.
Stripping naked and smearing yourself in shit to own the libs.
Well, not quite but worst. Using comic sans to own the libs.
Heh, fucking muppets.
This reads slightly passive aggressive:
And Brexit Party continue to prove they aren’t a single issue party, unless that single issue is defending concentration camp guards.
It’s remainers vs nazis lads, don’t ever forget that. Normalising and empowering the far right and their ideologies is what Brexit is really about.
