Looking for someone possessing brains?

Presumably one with a minority government that can’t pass legislation but no vote of no confidence is called.

Quite literally waiting for the EU to save us with another kind-but-mandatory extension.

Sad to admit, but at this point I would laugh my ass off if the EU just said “sorry, no more extensions. October 31 it is, or you declare Remain in the next week.”

I hereby move that they hold another Brexit referendum instead.

I know all you guys despise him but I just wanted to comment on Boris’s most recent Twitter message. I’ve never seen a Prime Minister post a selfie Twitter video before… ever. It’s so weird. Gone are the days of BBC broadcast statements. We’re truly in the social media age.

Didn’t FDR pioneer this with his radio side chats?

I watched that video.

I’d like that 1 minute and 4 seconds of my life back.

Such bullshit coming out of his mouth.

Plus he is sullying Milton Keynes, my town (or city, can’t make its mind up).

Can’t make their mind up? Gotta be the most British place ever.

So, Corbyn apparently not completely devoid of his senses, since he won’t give Johnson the election the latter wants.

The question is - what other option is there? I’ve said it before that they ought to force through a referendum with preferential voting for the three options (I assume that would be theoretically possible for parliament) as IMO the best option to settle the problem, but if there is no appetite/votes for that, what other options do they have? It’s either election now or election later, and hard to see why later would be better for Labor.

I guess the game plan now is to run out the clock for an extension (so that Johnson “breaks” his promise, giving that talking point against him), and then allow the election.

What does that mean? What clock is ticking now?

Also, without knowing much about how parliament works it looks like either they can have a no confidence vote allowing Tories to pick yet another dead PM walking, or they can agree to a general election date, or they can take charge of the agenda again and try to legislate something. Is that basically right?

The EU giving an extension (which should have happened yesterday, but is delayed until next week, if I understand correctly. The EU would like to know whether (and when) an election is held. The opposition wants an extension first.

I think they could also have a no confidence vote and appoint a caretaker PM prior to a GE, but the chances of that seem even slimmer than the other options.

Expect there is some intense plotting and interesting calls going on this weekend.

What is the voter participation rate in the UK?

Because it seems like after something like Brexit, if you don’t vote in the future, you are dumb.

Ooooh!

And the government has rejected it. I guess they don’t really want an election either.

I’m seeing conflicting reports about that. It seems crazy for them to reject an election after shouting from the rafters that they want one. Still, nothing would surprise me with Brexit. If they did vote this down then it would be a major mistake.

That would be novel, wouldn’t it?

The notion that “getting it done” will heal rifts and promote unity between remainers and the hard/far right is as much fantasy as the rest of the lies from those in charge.

If Lib Dem replaces Labour as the left party, would Lib Dem start taking up more Labourish positions on other issues? The impression I’ve gotten is that Lib Dems are similar to the Tories on economics.
