That’s entirely fair, changing Russia will take generations though. Corruption is simply too pervasive on every level. They need to build up the judiciary, and they need to bolster the independence of the police.

Putin is worth circa 50 billion. He’s most likely the richest man on the planet. When I was working directly on this he owned about 4% of Gazprom and 27% of Surgutneftegas. As boss of bosses unbelievable wealth flows up from the gang bosses he has installed in power across minstrys, SOEs and stolen businesses.
I’m an anti-bribery and corruption analyst with 15+ years working with Eastern Europe teams. I also spent 5 years working at on of my investment banks in front office doing onboarding and liaising with KYC and MLRO functions to onboard their client banks, industrials and energy as an SME on oligarchs and their wealth. We in the industry all know exactly how Russians kleptocracy and Putins criminal empire works as our job is to try and keep our companies from criminals and sanction busters.
