I don’t quite get the Tory strategy on this kind of thing - this, the misleading video of Keir Starmer earlier in the campaign, the rebranding of their Twitter feed to FactCheck UK, threatening Channel 4 because they dared to empty-chair Johnson last night… It all makes them look deliberately deceitful and underhanded, trying to cheat and bully their way to victory, which - looking at the polling data - they don’t really need to do.
Surely it must go down badly with the electorate and the fabled “British sense of fair play” we like to tell ourselves about. Maybe we’re long past that now, and it has become the “British sense of fuck you, we won”. I guess it’s all part of Dominic Cummings’ brain-the-size-of-a-planet game theorizing.

HAHAHAHA NOPE, that was in an alternate reality in which they had a conscience.
Meanwhile David Lammy and Liam Byrne are engaging in Labour’s much more effective technique to undermine the media, sharing lies about LBC on twitter. The tweets have of course now been deleted, but hundreds of outriders now know the line to take, and their mendacious poison spreads across social media.

Moving away from my despair at the major parties, I don’t see Channel 4 news as truly impartial, but nor would I say they are biased : better to say they are great journalists and broadcasters with a dedication to the truth, they just have a certain perspective which leads their coverage to favour the left. Impartiality is nigh-on impossible, the BBC makes huge efforts to achieve it and doesn’t always succeed.
I’d advocate for a change to the Ofcom broadcast regulations except I can’t come up with a scheme that doesn’t give us Fox news. In the absence of this whining about C4 impartiality does more harm than good, if nothing else because it legitimizes the Corbynites attacks on “powerful media interests”.

Heh. The Tory reaction to this is completely absurd. When I saw this originally in my Google headlines, I thought they had actually gotten an ice sculpture carved of Boris and placed on stage which would have been a bit provocative (if quite awesomely funny), but this… hard to take that outrage seriously.
Though it has to be, unfortunately, since it’s part of the assault on the fourth estate that has become part and parcel of populist politics in recent years.
Also quite amazing to see a prime minister dodge interviews and debates in this way - especially given that he is not elected. Totally normal election here… nothing to see.
When I (and perhaps others) discuss the move of the party torward authoritarianism, this behaviour is in mind. This GE is so depressing.
